June 1, 2022 - (Mostly) Burgundy Dinner with Friends (Formento's - Chicago IL): I haven't had this wine in a decade, and tonight's bottle was much better than it was in its youth. While this could still nearly be mistaken for a Côte-Rôtie, it has harmonized into an enticing and meaty wine of impressive concentration with black fruits and braised meat character. Great power and length for its level. Frankly, a great Village level wine now.

March 11, 2019 - It still drinks OK, but on the decline slope, which makes it somewhat dull and tired.

March 10, 2018 - Earthy and gamey, not fruity. Not my preference, more like a Syrah based wine, but I think thats combo of the producer and the appellation. But I expected more fruit from this vintage. Long finish.

July 7, 2012 - Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. As often happens with Dugat-Py, some tasters thought this from the northern Rhone. While i didn't make that mistake, I struggled with identifying exactly what it might be. Big and bulky with a unusual level of concentration that didn't seem well integrated.

March 20, 2012 - Savory notes on nose and palate with tannins still prominent but not obtrusive. This is drinking well now, but will easily keep for at least another 5-10 years.

Burgundy-Report

(Dugat-Py Bernard Gevrey-Chambertin Les Evocelles) Deep cherry-red. The nose shows a really intense redcurrant and cranberry note - very impressive - as I was expecting an attack of oak. The palate has structure, but the tannins are completely covered by the high-quality fruit. The level of extract is higher than some grand crus, what is missing in such a comparison is the complexity. For all that, this is a splendidly dense - but balanced - village wine, I'd be really interested to revisit this in 10 years to see what awaits. It's only a shame that it costs more than many grand crus!
