September 8, 2022 - Bought 10 years ago ex-domaine after a domaine visit. The back-label has a QR code on it. Allowed 2 hours of air in bottle. Intense plum and cherries in the muscalar aroma. Good structure and fruits. Very balanced and fine in an hour upon serving. A good Musigny.

July 22, 2021 - Is this the best burgundy I have ever had? Served blind. The nose hits you. So much intensity, even though cold. The perfume. The flowers. It's incredible. The palate then follows. It seems fresher. Clearly well stored. The intensity of fruit is there. Its all red. Lots of strawberry and raspberry. This is just stunning. The nose gets better and better. After an hour, it's even better. Tutti Frutti and bubble gum. How is this possible? Does burgundy get better than this? I struggle to see how. From TL.

April 28, 2019 - 1996 Burgundy Retrospective - The Second Session (Eddie V's - Tysons Corner, VA): Expressive nose displaying pure red and black fruit, raspberry, black berry, black cherry, rose, dark spices and limestone. Excellent concentration, very finely layered pure red and black fruit, silky and polished, bright acidity and mineral, and a long pure black fruit driven finish. The most classic Musing y of the night. It remains very youthful and can improve for another decade or more.

December 14, 2017 - A Mix of Heavy Hitters (Corner Table, Mpls): This had been slow-oxed overnight. The nose showed a bit better than the palate. It was earthy with orange peel, dust, sous bois and baked cherry. The palate is not entirely right, baked cherry, iron and heavy miinerality, wood and its rather angular. For whatever reasons, this just wasn't what we'd hoped for. Maybe 88 points as it was, but presumed to be not representative. Too bad, I was excited to try this one.

Burgundy-Report

  • By Bill Nanson
    3/1/2005 (link)

(Drouhin Joseph Musigny) Medium-plus ruby-red. From 12°C the nose starts deep, dank and woody with a touch of forest floor - much nicer than it sounds! As the wine warms in the glass, the fruit starts to take over, first it's deep and plummy with hints of roast too. As the wine gets closer to room temperature the fruit gets ever more primary and and pure - beautiful red berry fruit - reminds me of the 99 de Vogüé Amoureuses of last week. The palate has just a little fat but is superbly balanced and beautifully round. There is almost a hidden density to this wine coupled with excellent fine tannin. The finish is very good but not quite a match to the rest. My best Musigny experience and a wine I absolutely don't regret opening - wine of the year so far.
