April 16, 2021 - Deep garnet colour. Rich, complex nose. Very savoury and big oak notes. Lots of leather. On the palate, dark fruits but not particularly fruit forward. Oak notes are there. Very dry and a little hint of sourness. Finish shorter than expected. Tannins completely smoothed over with age. Probably a little outside drinking window.

November 20, 2019 - Past it's prime. Came across full bodied, but flabby, plummy with a blackberry, light pepper undertone. Bottle purchased from reliable retailer 15 years agan stored by me since then in Eurocave. Cork was perfect. This my second time at drinking a Greenock 7 acre 1996. I'd say Parker overestimated the quality and/or aging potential of this particular vintner/year. It was significantly better 8-10 years ago.

I enjoy old wines, and this was this was a decent bottle, just underwhelming, and monotone. Full bodied, but not worth close to the $90 paid for it.

April 23, 2018 - Fruit bomb aussie shiraz, in my experience, don't age. They don't get elegant, profound, nuanced. To me, they just seem to lose focus. The fruit is there, but it's not refined. Nose is complex. The first sip seems really interesting, but by the third sip it's almost cloying--candied oak, port-like flavors without the structure. These are wines made for Robert Parker, not for enjoying throughout the course of the evening. I don't think it will evolve from where it's at now.

December 29, 2015 - Feels very young, yet already reached it's amazing peak, where it will stay for a very very long time! Great power and elegance, very pronounced acidity, plumeria, floral, cherries. World class wine!

January 18, 2014 - Small Coravin session @ home. Still dark purple color, barely any signs of ageing. Very intense nose of sweet cassis/black currant, dark berries, some smoke, sweet spices and a touch of tobacco. With some air, some more aromatic complexity emerges. On the palate there are plenty of dark fruits again, sweet cassis, dark fruit compote but without any heat, some leather, licorice and tobacco. It's very full-bodied and very dense, but doesn't give the Impression of being overly heavy because of the medium+ acidity and the still medium tannin. In my bottle there are no signs of fading fruit or oxidation at all. It's still perfectly fresh and to be honest, it still drinks quite similarly to a bottle I had about 7 years ago. If you enjoy a glass of "in-your-face" Barossa Shiraz once in a while, Greenock Creek is still one of the benchmarks. RP rates it 99, which I think is pretty generous, but it's a fantastic glass of Shiraz!

July 27, 2012 - Greatness here can be hard to describe. Just drinking like a purring Ferrari. Violet and vanilla support wonderful fruit which continued to develop with every sip. The wine tonight was the occasion! Bravo!

April 4, 2012 - The cork on this seemed dried out and broke very easily but the wine was ok - big deposit but deep ruby with pale rim.
Right away a blackberries and pepper nose with licorice, leather and tar developing after a few hours in glass. Cut with strong acidity and very smooth tannins. The finish was ok but a little hot - this is 14.6% and it seems the fruit is fading a bit now.

November 15, 2009 - Wine Salon - November 2009 (Australia) (Chez Jahnke): A bona fide RP 99 pointer and what a dud this was for me. It has the dreaded menthol and dried apricot taste and it's got the texture of vintage port. If you're looking for something to drink with dinner, this isn't it. Maybe with chocolate dessert. It is worth noting that this wine was made from only 9-year old vines.
