May 27, 2016 - Apple and lemon throughout with crunchy minerality and seemingly a saline finish. I recall enjoying this wine from several vintages when young, and this 2008 has held up very nicely. Great value wine, much better with dinner than on its own.

December 1, 2014 - Not a fav for my dining companions, but I liked it. Although I have no experience with "Alpine wines" I would guess that this one fits that bill. Crisp and minearlly, but not like other wines I have had. A bit more intellectual than hedonic. Fine with me.

November 28, 2014 - One of the most prominent apple scents I've ever experienced in a wine. Green apple on the palate, with a nice dose of acidity and a noteworthy saline/mineral finish. First experience tasting Gringet-based wine, and it was memorable.

April 19, 2014 - A private lunch (Restaurant Marcus **, London, UK): Fragrant, alpine herbs, nice evolution, yellow apples, hint of nuts, spicy complexity; natural sweetness, lovely mineral freshness, supple, slightly rustic, sea breeze, red apple, nice intensity; good length.

February 25, 2014 - Nice light white wine, good with the baked cod and fish and chips we had the last two nights. Some lime, some mineral, some white fruit, overall pleasing to drink.

(BELLUARD Les Alpes) Les Alpes Dear Friends, There are a few offers every year that I'd rather not send out because I want to keep the wine for myself - this is one of them. Taking a quote from our friends at Bacchus (in England) when they describe the Les Alpes "This is wine the way our creator intended" and indeed it is. Belluard's classic white wine (made from Gringet) is the epitome of what Garagiste is all about - the winery is one of the most important in all of France and I offer the tiny US allocation with humility every fall. If you are an old friend of ours, you already know Belluard is very close to our heart - if you are new to us, then welcome to the snow-capped, mountain world of terroir. I'm not sure how much detail to go into here as we always have a waiting list for this wine and it's become one of the few universally acclaimed wines we offer every year. Everyone's palate is different so not every wine appeals to everyone but this wine seems to cross-over to the far left of wine geekdom but also to a comfortable middle that simply recognizes a great wine when they taste it. From chiseled alpine rock and old vines nestled between the Swiss border and Chamonix, the vineyard for this wine lies between 1500-2000 ft in elevation on a steep south facing slope that is precarious to farm. In 2008, the crop was so small that both cuvees (the Le Feu and Les Alpes) were combined into one wine (Les Alpes) as it was not even worth bottling 20 separate cases of Les Feu. That is a major bonus as the Le Feu component gives this bottling an even greater depth than normal. Someone called the wine of Belluard "flower glacier water" and that about sums it up. If we don't sell out, I'll just take the remainder home and drink it over the next few years with my closest friends. VERY RARE and VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEDED for those that enjoy Huet sec, Bernard VV or Les Clos: 2008 Domaine Belluard Gringet Vin de Savoie "Les Alpes" (Les Feu) Haute-Savoie/Ayze Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA SOFR6823
