January 11, 2014 - We popped (but did not decant) 3-4 hours prior to pouring, and ran it through the aerator prior to drinking. It was not enough - initially, even in the glass, it was extremely tight. As it gradually opened up, it lost the astringency and revealed a wonderful combination of fruit (currant, cherries, light berries), tobacco and spice; a bit of loam too. It was a wine that we all sipped, then swirled a ton, sipped again, and ultimately were fighting over the dregs in the bottle. Had I another bottle, would have given it more time and treated it more kindly before serving. Even with our mismanagement, it ultimately showed well.
