May 31, 2019 - Complex spicy, finishing berry
December 22, 2018 - Medium tannins, good acidity, dark berries, cherries, and prune. Well structured, beautiful colour and a great wine.
December 7, 2018 - At home, thought I would go with something "old school" tonight. Its been a couple years since last bottle. These bottles in my cellar from release, well stored. Cork came out clean.
Core color ruby/purple, thinning at the rims. Nose is gentle dark berries, baking spice, vanilla oak. Palate of "dusted" cherry and red currants, pomegranite, black tea. Well aged, elegant texture. Tannins smooth and resolved. Medium weight and finish.
Still really nice, fruit is faded but still expressive in a different way than it would have been in its youth. Some hints of the signature SO vanilla oak. Still alive and nice to drink...
November 15, 2018 - Very nice wine—something to please everyone. Not too much fruit, not too much oak, not too much must. Still a good deal of tannins. Very well balanced, pleasant wine.
October 27, 2018 - Drank this just in time. Probably should have opened it a few years ago. But it still shows up with mild, complex fruit with the vanilla-oakiness that Silver Oak proudly creates. Shorter finish than you might expect from a younger Alexander Silver Oak. But overall, a welcome, if a bit late expression of this winery's classic legacy.
October 25, 2018 - Has aged very well.
The wine has smooth texture and medium acidity.
June 3, 2018 - Smooth and supple cab. Dark fruits and berries. Cork was brittle (the wine was a gift) which led to some initial concern but the wine had still held up well,, yet has peaked and ready to drink Decanted for about 45 minutes. Medium bodied, well balanced with soft finish. Has another year or two left, before heading down hill. Drink up
October 9, 2017 - Ample and nice. Well integrated tannins and nice bouquet but nothing overwhelming. Nice bottle, but not special.
October 9, 2017 - Saras
February 18, 2017 - The wine pours such an inky purple color with insanely long legs, credits to this blockbuster vintage. The nose is really hitting it off the park right now. It is incredibly explosive and concentrated. The bouquet, which consists of blackberries, cherry jam, cassis, smoke, toasted oak, chocolate and leather, is simply mesmerizing. Judging from the nose, this is entering the prime drinking window, no less because of the high levels of extraction which makes this an age-worthy wine. Like the nose, the palate is equally concentrated and boasts a thick, voluptuous texture. Fat would be a good word for it. Though opulent, tannins are very well integrated and are almost silken. Flavors of sweet oak, blackberry jam, sous bois, leathers, truffles, coffee and oak do run across the tongue. The finish is smoky with a fittingly strong kick to it. Very much enjoyable now though there is still quite a bit of life ahead of it.
