November 16, 2009 - Color: Dark ruby, slight haze. Nose: Really strong nose. Earthy, funky, cherry, tobacco, dark chocolate. On the palate, This full bodied merlot is plush on initial attack, with lovely black cherries, black currant and clove. The midpalate brings fresh acidity and complexity not quite expected from a 'value' bordeaux. Layers of tobacco, bitter dark chocolate, and black and white pepper are complemented by just a hint of cedar box, and some mild oak. The finish is very dry, in a good way. The tannins are soft but just enough grip to keep things interesting. Late finish is a return to fruit with a plummy twist on the tail end.

This is no foo-foo wine, this is the real deal. Unmistakable bordeaux terroir comes shining through. I've had to completely rethink my 'I don't do box wines' stance after being compelled to try this effort. Heck, RP even gave it an 87. This wine is a screaming value from the stellar 2005 vintage. Highly recommend. (Winemaker is Venezuelan-born Oswaldo Hernandez, now living in Bordeaux http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1018506281 )
