March 17, 2023 - Wow! I had no idea whether this would have any life it it, but I decided to take a chance because, after all, Leroys are known to be very long-lived. At first, it seemed over the hill, with a dark, almost weak tea color. Not much nose, and what was there was stinky. On tasting, I thought it was oxidized. But we left it in the glass, and gradually the stink blew off and the wine picked up fruit. It turned out to be a nice mouthfull, with some complexity and even some fruitiness left. Certainly worth drinking, though itwould undooubtedly have been better 20 or even 10 years ago.

March 9, 2019 - From a virtually perfect looking bottle, this wine had a deep (but bright) yellow center and clear rims. The high intensity nose put forth vanilla, macaroons, lemon, brioche and minerals.

In the mouth, this wine was rich and ripe but backed by awesome acidity and fantastic length. Amazingly enough, this bottle still seemed a bit young!

This wine is just coming into the zone and will easily last 10+ more years.

November 10, 2017 - Dinner with the St. Louis Crowd et al. (St. Louis, MO): Some of these older Leroy whites are amazing. This was one of them. The nose showed a little bit of aniseed and other dried green spices, as well as some sweetness that didn't strike me as from fruit. The palate was very similar, with a rich texture but cut with some good acidity as well. Fully mature and good to go now.

August 31, 2013 - My last bottle showed almost exactly as the prior two bottles, other than this one had almost no wood showing from the start.

A very impressive wine with a palate staining impact, riveting acidity, and huge length, I am going to bump this bottle's score to 95.

August 17, 2013 - From an excellent looking bottle with a couple mm of ullage, this wine had a medium yellow center and clear rims. The medium+ intensity nose was pretty much as I described it before showing lemon, marzipan, vanilla, and white stone. I should mention that there was an edge of wood that faded into the background after 2+ hours of decanter time.

Quite rich in the mouth, this had awesome acidity and outstanding length. An outstanding bottle that should be drunk now (even though it will last). However, it was best after 5+ hours of air.......

July 12, 2013 - From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a deep yellow center with clear rims. the medium+ intensity nose displayed citrus, white stone, vanilla bean, honey, and a hint of tangerine.

In the mouth, it was rich and ripe and yet quite dry at the same time. The impeccable balance in the mid-plate led to a long, acidity driven finish.

While this will last, I would argue it is at its peak. Enjoy this wine, which was close to 95 points in quality, after 3+ hours of air. The finish is particularly noteworthy.

March 9, 2013 - La Paulée de New York Gala Dinner (New York, NY): Brief Paulee note. Floral and spice-driven start with fresh apple. Lush and also well textured, incredibly fresh and pristine for its age and vintage.

January 1, 2010 - Last previously tasted 1998, when it was still quite immature. Tasted with Club des Vingt at Yannick Cam's. Now fully ready but still with time in hand. Superconcentrated, holding full fruit. long, a really great example.
