October 28, 2022 - From Magnum and an utter treat. Opened and double decanted 4 hours prior to serving it nonetheless opened up even further over an hour in the glass. Very aromatic, I couldn’t resist going back to inhale the fragrance again and again. Beautiful colour- not showing its age, the secondary notes on the palate beautifully complementing the verticality of the vintage. A wonderful way to round off the dinner where we compared 2007-2004 vintages of Percarlo and La Ricolma- with the Sangiovese “winning” in most vintages for my tastes and the 2006 being the absolute winner in a tight contest.
February 20, 2019 - Last of 12, pnp, perfect cork and level, as last bottle noted in 12/17, less powerful than surrounding vintages. F (17.5).
December 22, 2017 - 11th of 12, opened 30 minutes, perfect cork and level, on a par with last bottle, still fresh and pure, if a tad less interesting than broader and more complex Sodi 97. F (17.5).
February 7, 2017 - At the end of a beautifull life. Like the authum a wine with a distinctive smell. A lady grant..
January 2, 2017 - A good wine which for a 98 (18 years) is still drinking really well. I think it is nearly at the end of its plateau though. Still a good tannin which I think will now start to get dry. Not what I would call an enjoyable wine, but certainly interesting and I probably needed food with it.
November 6, 2016 - Another excellent showing. A firm, muscular Sangiovese with very present tannins and acidity.
June 24, 2016 - BLACK CHERRIES, CURRANTS, BLACKBERRIES, AND A TOUCH OF SPICE IN THE NOSE AND FLAVOR. MEDIUM TO LONG FINISH.
April 27, 2016 - 10th of 12, pnp, crumbly cork but perfect level - better with charcuterie than November 14 note suggests, now on plateau of maturity, nice elegance for such a big wine. Certainly fine (17.5)
January 5, 2015 - the 1998 Percarlo is still drinking marvelously. Good fruit, tannin and finish. I love this wine! Brief decanting was perfect.
November 23, 2014 - 9th of 12, opened 30 mins but not decanted - a little less impressive than my March note but essentially the same but less clearly defined/energetic. Very good indeed (17/20).
