Community Tasting Notes 9

May 12, 2019 - This was lovely. Balsa, cedar, pine and cherry. Vivid acidity, pure, and surprisingly fresh. Not a hint of oxidation to be found. Certainly dry, bordering on austerity, but a very proper Brunello. Lovely.

February 9, 2014 - Lunch with Robin & Friends: Med to med- mahogany/garnet. Very much tertiary dominated fruit - strong iron fillings, and crayon character - then on further swirling hints of red fruit. The palate reflects nose where the structure is coarser in its tannin profile, rather sinewy and perhaps needs further time (but unlikely methinks). Certainly quite long and am not sure there is much more that will unfold in the future. After 1 hour, not that much more...

July 5, 2013 - Delightful wine. Tobacco, cedar and a whiff of pine on the nose. The palate is bittersweet, balsamic and cherry, iced tea and tobacco leaf. Lovely acidity. Tannins are still a little chunky at this stage. Plenty of gas in the tank. A compelling wine.

December 7, 2012 - Base neck fill. PnP. Medium ruby color, no bricking, no sediment. A bit of shy nose, but wonderful on the palate. Lively acidity, red, ripe fruit, and firm but restrained tannins.

April 22, 2010 - Nice mature nose of dried flowers, mineral, bing cherries, smokey tobacco, cigar spices. Entry on the palate is quite nice, but simplifies midway through, and leads to a real letdown on the finish. Would've been a stunner if not for the midpalate and finish. Still, enjoyable. Doubt this will get any better.

Big oops! I wrote the above note too soon. A little time in the glass totally changed this wine into a thing of utter beauty. Nose remained fresh but showed beautiful signs of aging, with truly perfumed notes overlying smooth touches of leather and tar. Most notably, the midpalate picked up considerable weight and perfume. Damn, I drank too much of this early in the evening. Just hitting its stride at 4 hours. Score upgraded from 89 to 92. Patience, grasshopper.
