December 30, 2019 - Well, related to the two other reviews from the same week in December, yes, the cork did break, and yes, it did not need to air out.
Fortunately, the wine smelled fine, and we were able to pour the bottle into a decanter through a strainer to clear out the cork debris.
I gave it a few minutes before drinking, but it certainly did not need to air out.
The tannins had receded, and it was a smooth and balanced wine, with a very distinctive and elegant finish. A day or so later we opened a 2005 Heitz Martha's Vineyard, and I preferred the Georges de Latour

December 25, 2019 - Oustanding and enjoyable wine. It does not need significant time decanting. This is my first Georges de Latour and it is a nice and smooth wine. It is a dry full body wine with blackberry and black currant that turns into a chocolatey taste.

December 24, 2019 - AWFUL experience. Opened Christmas Eve and the cork completely disintegrated. This is the 2nd bottle of BV that we opened this year with the same problem, and a third bottle that my dad opened (from 2009) cracked in half but luckily the wine was still potable. I emailed BV directly with pictures and explanation, along with a side-by-side of a 2007 Anderson's Conn Valley bottle that was purchased around the same time and stored along side the BV and opened on the same night with NO problem with the cork. And BV will do absolutely NOTHING to make this right. Will NEVER purchase a BV wine again.

Ben contacted us and has now sent us a new vintage of Georges de Latour for our troubles. I only wish customer service had done this prior to having to spend time on negative reviews.
