March 3, 2024 - Dark color ... not showing much age.
Nose quite powerful with cassis, cigar box, and earthy notes. Suggests age given the notes, but really quite impressive.
Med body, still showing some tannin and enough acidity to keep the palate lively. Long finish and quite tasty, with great balance.
Quilceda takes a lot of time to start showing its stuff. At 34 years, it has tertiary characteristics with great complexity. Tastes like a nice Bordeaux except more intensity and fruit but with most of the complexity and fun.

November 27, 2020 - Still an amazing example of a well made wine with wonderful dark berry and floral notes

May 11, 2019 - Popped and poured, incredibly youthful purple/garnet hue. Fantastic aromas of dark fruits, black currant, vegetal green, potting soil, cedar and a hint of brown sugar. Lush mouthfeel shows a particular edginess due to moderate-plus acidity. Flavors of black cherry, black currant, dried herbs (mint, sage) and an earthy quality that adds freshness. Chewy, somewhat gritty tannins on the lengthy close, which finishes with just a touch of heat.
This is absolutely phenomenal and although ready to go, well-stored bottles will clearly keep rocking for another 5-10+ years - such an epic wine!

October 30, 2011 - I was amazed at how much life was left in this bottle. The concensus of the table was that everyone was worried it was going to be on the downslope of it's life, and we were all pleasantly surprised. Drank alongside a 1997 Woodward Canyon Charbonneau, a 1995 Pahlmeyer Red, and a 2000 Cayuse Camaspelo.
