    October 31, 2017 - Dark garnet core. Unlike the Mast Rare Reserve Block I reviewed yesterday, this is very clearly from Australia. Loads of dark plum and Asian spice on the nose, with a bit of coffee; overall quite primary and fruit-forward. The oak is well under control, but the 15% alcohol is apparent. Medium- to full-bodied, balanced acidity, good length, though a bit hot on the palate. Impressive fruit intensity, still very primary. So far I'm quite impressed with how well most of these Australian wines have held up, but many of them do not show much in terms of improvement from the aging process. This was impressive, but I'm guessing I would have enjoyed it as much, if not more, a few years ago.

    February 17, 2017 - At twelve years, this is most likely nearing the end of its prime drinking window and will not improve any further with age. It is dark black crimson colored, full bodied and muscular with concentrated ripe, almost raisin flavored black fruits punctuated by tones of spice, black pepper and kirsch with a layer of vanilla, smoke, cured meat and graphite on a lingering fine grained tannin finish. This is a style Linda likes a lot but the obtuse fruit and non-fruit flavors are a bit overbearing for my preference.

    December 31, 2016 - God, what a gorgeous Shiraz! I was holding out for a while and glad I did, because this has grown into something very special. Tons of sediment, after about three hours in the decanter, things started getting awesome. Aromas of cured olives, garlic, pepper, beef broth, all on top of deep but tart dark plums and black currant. Full-bodied and rich but the tannins still provide smooth structure and there's some fresh acidity to keep it all together. Black currant and plums are laced with cured meats and black/green olives, campfire smoke, tart, black pepper glaze, all sorts of herbs and spices. Man, high-end Mitolo with 10+ years on it is quite a thing.

    December 5, 2016 - plum, plum liqueur, ripe and serious off the bat. touch of medicinal herbs. mid is ripe but balanced. oak fully integrated. chewy black fruit. great acidity keeping it fresh. lovely note of fresh cracked black pepper on the back. Showing development but still quite young and fresh (bought on release and cellared)
