January 7, 2019 - Followed over 2 nights. Seemingly in early maturity with fine tannins with a stately profile. Classic bdx profile with black fruits, cassis, leader and cedar spice notes. Nice aromatics, though the palate and finish were a bit “four square”. Could still use a little more time but approachable now.

November 25, 2018 - Drunk at my 50th. Not sure what happened here, it never really came alive. I think it's an off bottle, I hope it's not reflective of my others.

October 10, 2018 - Tasted over two nights, this is surprisingly youthful for a wine more than 15 years old. First taste was with an hour open, and it was still rather monolithic. It took another hour of air for things to unfold, and then the wine showed as a textbook, classic classified growth, left bank wine. Dark cassis and blackberry fruit, hints of cedar and pencil shavings, and subtle herb tones were framed by substantial, yet balanced tannins. On night two it showed nearly exactly as on night one, allowing for the slight degree of oxidation from the extra 24 hours. A few hours in a decanter make this a very pleasurable wine to drink now, but five or more years make sense. Classy stuff that fits what I look for in Bordeaux.

October 10, 2018 - From memory: Very fragrant and classy right out of the gates, showing generous dark berry fruit, spice and earthy tones. The fragrance continues on throughout the palate, where the medium-framed body is backed by moderate tannins that expanded their reach over a couple hours. With air this revealed notes of cedar and subtle graphite. Despite being 17 years post-vintage, this still showed youthful, with no sign of bricking or slowing down. I’d give this a minimum of five more years before approaching. Quintessential St. Julien.

June 3, 2018 - Decanted for 1 hour. There is black fruit on the nose, earth and creme de casis mid palate with late coffee notes. The tannin are moving in the correct direction. Definitely enjoyable now, but can't wait to try again in 5 or 10 years to see where its gone.
