September 1, 2020 - (Decanted for one hour.) The nose is a textbook example of a mature cabernet: a rich panoply of dark fruit, tobacco, herbs, sous bois, and hints of eucalyptus and cedar. These scents unfolds beautifully and seductively in the glass. Gorgeous. On the palate it is medium bodied and very elegant, with perfectly composed and expressive flavors of ripe blackberry, plum preserves, tart cheery, wet soil, tobacco, and mushroom broth. The tannins are seamlessly integrated and the finish is long and luxurious. In sum, the wine is very delicious, balanced and harmonious, and it should remain so for many years to come. Bravo! 95 points.
August 1, 2020 - I’ve enjoyed eight of the last ten vintages of this wine, and IMHO this is the best. It feels like I could pass the evening just enjoying the puppourri of the aromatics: red and purple flowers, spice box, cedar mulch, red currant, chewy tobacco, vanilla, mocha, and rocky black dirt. Visually, still youthful and a showing clear, deep ruby hue. Pronounced flavors of mixed red and black berries, red and black currant leaf, young cigar tobacco, unsweetened chocolate, and a mouthful cedar forest floor. Mature, highly concentrated, very complex, superbly balanced with a finish that goes on and on. This producer’s wine always punch far above their price. I always buy when I see it discounted...lots in my cellar. Decanted and enjoyed with a medium rare ribeye steak.
June 26, 2020 - This wine is drinking quite well. Fairly concentrated with notes of cassis, blackberry, with well integrated soft tannins. Excellent balance and long finish. I still have 10 bottles left but I don't see any urgent need to drink them up - I think it's still evolving.
June 20, 2020 - A bit past its prime but still formidable
June 5, 2020 - Berry, moderate nose. Very smooth balanced tannins. Drinking well now. Drink up.
May 27, 2020 - The last bottle. Drank the previous two in late 2017.
Not quite as good as the previous tasting. It seems that it has lost a little in the 2 1/2 years.
Blueberry is still present. Tannins are completely resolved and there is a good balance. The secondary notes are still present just not as pronounced as I remember. I don’t know if it is fading or transitioning. Since it was my last bottle we will probably never know.
May 24, 2020 - This is beyond ridiculous. So good in every way.
April 25, 2020 - These have been awesome and I was excited to buy more from the 2017 vintage to stash away for a while. Old Bordeaux style with great fruit still remaining after 13 years. Wonderful aroma and lasting finish. Just fantastic. Very affordable as well.
April 18, 2020 - Very well integrated tannins and acidity. Layers of peppercorns, cassis, mint and toast.
April 2, 2020 - Tannins are just beginning to integrate and acid is still M+. This wine still has a long life ahead of it. Notes of dark fruit--dominantly black and red but some blueberry appearing after being in the decanter for 90 minutes suggests a hint of Petite Verdot has been blended in. Inorganics are dominated by rocks--wet river rock and gravel. Will hold remaining bottles 5+ years.
