June 13, 2023 - Really nice. Was great to see it side-by-side with the CdC. Higher toned than its counterpart with more red dominant fruit and some subtle peppery notes. A great mix of primary and secondary components.

January 29, 2022 - First time having a Volnay. Wine was definitely on, and even though I don't have a reference point for the village could tell that bottle was in a good spot. Compared to other CdB and CdN wines, definitely more intense and brooding for a pinot. Nose still burgundy with a pretty (more mature) bouquet of red fruit. This does have a little bit of age on it so the tannins have integrated nicely.

That being said palate is heavier than what I'm used to. Good weight to the mid palate, though I would almost describe this as if a nice, aged right bank bordeaux and CdN burgundy had a baby. However, you don't get the bordeaux nose of cassis, tobacco, leather, etc. which is nice. It's a good wine if you like this stuff, just not the first thing I would reach for if I had a choice

August 4, 2020 - This is a year that the Caillerets is better than the Ducs and almost on a par with the Chenes. It's elegant, mineraly, intense, displays light notes of dark fruit which was surprising and a restrained richness. 08 is a year that the top Lafarges are very transparent to their underlying terroirs.

June 2, 2017 - Hard for me to opine here. wife really like it. My nose was stuffed. Nose didn't really shine much but the palate had good body on it and a lasting finish.

January 1, 2016 - New Year's Day Pork Shoulder and Grits Supper (San Francisco): The remainder of a bottle opened last night. Light red with some browning. Some distant red fruit and spice, but mostly soil. Acidity is not harsh. Underwhelming, which unfortunately is my most common reaction to Lafarge Volnays.
