October 29, 2022 - Emidio Pepe Agriturismo Visit and Aurora Vertical Tasting; 10/29/2022-10/30/2022 (Emidio Pepe Winery): #6 in the line-up of 7 wines in the Aurora vertical tasting paired with dinner at the Emidio Pepe Agriturismo. Since we opted for the Aurora tasting we got to add in the two older vintages ('97 and '82). At this point of the dinner we were on to the Mousse al Cioccolato e Olio Nuovo. Age is more noticeable here with the fruit leaning out a bit and the tertiary characteristics coming forward, lots of earthy, dried leaves, taut acidity and a refined finish. My second favorite of the flight.

September 7, 2021 - Tasted over the course of 3 hours and only began to show after over an hour in the decanter. Complex nose of red fruits, tea, and lots of white pepper. Delicate and silky on the palate and a really singular wine. I think this has plenty of life left and would love to see how this develops 5-10 years down the line!

March 15, 2021 - [Interesting to note this bottle has a cork branded 2017, assume it was a late bottling from the winery]

It needs LOTS of air to open up. On first pour from bottle it had brittle acidity that was almost prohibitive. After half an hour in decanter the wine started to soften and gain weight. At peak it was mellow, very smooth tannin, singing with tea and spice notes. That state however didn't stay for long. After about 3-4 hours of decanting the wine started to fade with acidity to come back again.

February 12, 2020 - Another of the birthday boy's favorite wines, this was also drinking really well. A touch more rustic than the '95 Chave and '96 Rougeard Les Poyeux this was served alongside, but still interesting and complex. Some barnyard on the nose, but very balanced and fresh with and earthy goodness and dark fruit. A great drinking window with lots of time on its side.

February 12, 2020 - Celebrating 60 (The NoMad): Last wine of the night and overshadowed by the Clos Rougeard because it's rare to get to drink Clos Rougeard with any age. I remember thinking though that this was quite tasty and enjoyable.
