December 26, 2022 - This example of the ‘34 Gruaud Larose, from a négociant bottling with a high shoulder fill, shows the merest hair of oxidation that precludes a rating, but there’s still an enjoyable, plummy, fruitcake nose here, large in scale. The palate is austere, tannic, and woody, without the generosity of the nose. Followed for over 4 hours.

February 28, 2019 - Drunk at Beef Bar in Hong Kong - A very bright bottle which delivered. Held well throughout the evening (probably better than Latour from the same vintage). Colour showed a darkness that belied its age. We didn't decant it, but I would have.

December 18, 2018 - UN-BEL-EIV-ABLE. Drank blind. I cannot believe this is 84 years old, especially given this was from a half bottle. This was a pale garnet, but still has some red tones. I thought this was 1980s from the colour! Smooth and elegant with just a slight sharpness. Utterly amazing for its age! So much sediment at the bottom but who cares. Just mind blowing. Drank with ST.

January 31, 2015 - Château Gruaud-Larose 1928 - 2011: Extremely dark, some red in there. Prunes and dates, Malmsey, something smoky; some tannin. Although very maderized, it is still drinkable.

October 5, 2014 - From an original bottle with the original cork and a good full, this bottle was in serious decline with VA to boot. Other bottles could be better. Approach buying this wine with caution.
