June 9, 2020 - Medium golden colour, with a touch of CO2. Stone fruit, peach, pineapple, melon, a mild minty herbal component, butter and intense spice notes on the full palate. Smoothly textured, with well-integrated acidity and very good length of the spice + yellow fruit-driven finish. A ripe and hedonistic Riesling. Being that hedonistic, it’s one of the few wines I liked better young than aged…
February 23, 2020 - - Yellow brown color.
August 25, 2019 - - Yellow brown color.
August 15, 2017 - My first venture into Austrian riesling. Notes of honeysuckle and oak predominate, though the oak softens as the wine opens in the glass. Medium body and finish.
June 28, 2017 - Magnificent Wachauer Riesling, now hitting its plateau of maturity. Quite austere, with a lime dominated citrus character and that lovely beeswax aroma you get with an aged Riesling. Delicately floral, mineral, just a hint of umani underneath. Excellent balance in the mouth and long, clean and exquisitely lingering on the finish.
September 1, 2016 - Peach, apricots, and honey melon on the complex nose. Melon and peach flavors on the palate with medium acidity. Long finish.
September 25, 2015 - Ripe dry Riesling from Germany, Austria and Alsace (@Private location): Great Riesling. Tasted blind and thought it was a German Riesling. So much slate and stony minerality. Quite elegant and anything but fat. Has a great future and potential.
July 2, 2015 - Great Domains of the Wachau; 7/1/2015-7/15/2015 (Jeroboam Club, Bristol, England): TN. £43.20
June 3, 2015 - Tremendous with spicy fish dishes and on its own. Spago in Maui. 14%
August 1, 2013 - We drank the wine over two evenings. It was medium yellow/golden in colour and offered a very mineral nose, with aromas of peach, lemon and ripe pear. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed minerals, restrained lemon, peach and pineapple flavours and a hint of sage, paired with medium-plus smooth acidity, a good, slightly creamy mouthfeel and tremendous length. The warm vintage came through; the wine was luscious and utterly drinkable, though it lacked some of the freshness I long for if it comes to Riesling. The wine showed well right from popping the cork, but I liked it best on day two as it became even more balanced and the acidity even smoother over night. Great wine. 92 for now.
