November 8, 2022 - A blend of 48% Syrah, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot, aged in oak for 15 months. Opaque dark ruby core, garnet towards the rim. Ripe dark fruit, black currant, blackberry, chocolate, coffee, cedar, tobacco, anise, herbaceous notes, and spices, later joined by black tea and stony minerality after extended aeration, with medium-level acidity, ripe, well-integrated tannin, and superb length. Reveals layer after layer of additional complexity as it breathes. Yes, it is full and creamy, but also balanced and harmonious, and very smoothly textured, and it contains the alcohol very well. Generally, this is not my preferred style of wine. But, somehow, the very well made 2008 Anwilka pulls it off, even for my old-world palate. I admit it, I liked it quite a bit!

November 1, 2020 - This was slightly less compelling than prior bottles. Still on the hebacious side with some olive mixed in. Darker fruit profile but quite fresh on the palate. Nice unique expression. Syrah expression more apparent than in prior bottles.

July 28, 2020 - Dark red, almost inky. You would not think this was 12 years old by looking at it. Nose has cassis, toast, and a hint of Forrest floor. Quite intense.
Palate is full bodied. Powerful. Very smooth and ripe tannins. Long after taste. Consistent with nose. Fruit driven. I don’t get the fading fruit I had on another bottle a few weeks ago.
I would not rule out that it will continue to evolve with more layers over the coming years, but it drinks excellently at the moment. To score higher it would need more layers and complexity. -

July 12, 2020 - Still very Dark. Does not show much age in the glass.
Nose is now quite tertiary but with quite some dark fruit as well.
Very smooth. Tannins are fully integrated. Very smooth. Hint of coal coffee and black fruit. Medium/full bodied.
Fruit is clearly fading. Drink up now. -

June 25, 2020 - Deep intense bouquet with chocolate ripe black fruits blackcurrant and more, some pencil lead and a smidgeon of cassis, deep, touch Bordeaux-like. The palate delivers a smooth entry to ripe fruit and creamy texture, blackcurrants, dried spices and oak nuances, sweet, dense, cocoa powder tannins with dark chocolate, almost black forest gateau or liqueur chocolates. Good wine, with a long finish.
