January 13, 2023 - Dinner with the W's and B's (Fiorentini in Rutherford, NJ): This wine was not aired out before arriving at the restaurant, so it only saw about 40 minutes of slo-ox before serving. Even with the limited aeration the wine opened up to a bouquet of blue and black fruits, plus some spice and earth. These followed on to the palate, with very nice intensity and expression. The acidity was nicely balanced but there were some tannins. A very nice wine overall. Should last for many more years.

December 5, 2021 - Agree with last review, lots of Bordeaux barnyard. Some dark fruit lurks below. From coravin. Will decant longer next time, update score as needed.

November 26, 2020 - I wish I was more of a wine expert. Have a bunch of Turleys in the basement at probably not perfect storage temps. But they usually are excellent. Is it possible that Brettanomyces this may have barnyard nose? The taste is delicious, but the nose I don’t care for. Maybe I am using the wrong words or my taste palate is off when I say it tastes good. HELP!

August 27, 2020 - Probably the finest expression of the 2000 vintage in Napa that I have drunk - certainly a more-profound experience than the Harlan 2000! Gorgeous,a and mature from the outset, with time in the glass, this wine became more and more distinguished, with unbelievably beautiful lifted and ripe blue and black fruits.Intense, amazing layered complexity, quite mature, but showing every sign that it will continue to transform with time. The structure is close to profound, and yet it does not feel overdone, or harsh in any way. A very fine wine.

April 12, 2020 - Plum, dark fruit, espresso are dominant in this smooth, inky black, long finished beauty.

February 19, 2019 - Immediately out of the bottle the wine has enormous aromatics of grape jelly, and freshly laid pavement of asphalt. On the palette there is an immediate grape jelly flavor and a vegetable background. Tobacco leaf comes through at mid pallete and the finish is long and with acidic core that allows the fruit to linger for literally 30 seconds.

Thick and viscous mouthfeel. Color is deep and dark with a cloudy in glass appearance.

June 19, 2018 - Wish I had bought more of these when they first came out. As good as this varietal gets. What I loved on this tasing was the combination of ripe fruit and very rich, velvety texture. A huge crowd pleaser among folks who were unfamiliar with this grape (as, I suspect, too many people will be).

September 22, 2015 - I had put away and stopped drinking my Turley wines and have recently started to drink my remaining ones. Still lots of fruit and glycerin, and a long finish. Deep dark color and with a very long finish. Sadly my last bottle of this.

February 7, 2015 - Great young wine. Needs decanting well in advance of drinking, both for sediment and to soften a bit. Wonder what another 15 years will do for it. I'll be 90 then. We shall see.

June 21, 2014 - Decanted for 4 hours. This baby of a wine is a classic petite sirah purple from core to edge. Smooth lush black and blue fruit - like many young petite sirahs monolithic at first, but you sense that much more will emerge with patience. Long finish. Will revisit in about 5+ years.
