Community Tasting Notes 4

May 9, 2016 - Amber in color, with the dark chocolate covered orange notes that pop up in very old Sauternes, the wine was still sweet, fresh, and lively, with loads of butterscotch, caramel, burnt vanilla, apricot and orange rind, with honeysuckle from start to finish.

April 3, 2014 - Eight (Not Angry) Men Drinking Great Wine (Paris Club - Chicago IL): A real step up vs the d'Yquem 1966 also served, this was fresher, with greater powerful and depth. I was told that another recent bottle had more nuance, but I had no complaints for a wine 75+ yo.

May 14, 2013 - Chicago Rotating Host Wine Dinner Series - May 2013 (RPM Italian - Chicago, IL): Served blind. Nose had coconut, soft floral notes, butterscotch, in a truly wonderful perfume. You could tell this was old, but I didn't think it was this old. The palate was remarkably balanced. My notes say, "goldilocks". Everything was just right. Beautifully vivid tropical fruit flavors, nice minerality, and tons of energy characterize this lovely wine.

August 28, 2011 - Needs 20 minutes in the decanter. Dark amber/brown with yellow meniscus. Honeysuckle, meyer lemon, flowers, yellow plum, caramel, toffee biscuits, nutmeg, preserved orange rind, honey, citrus zest, vanilla, cognac, brioche, Darjeeling. 30-40 second honeyed finish, clean and lipsmacking. Brilliant.
