  • Burgnick Likes this wine: 94 points

June 17, 2020 - Another stunning example of 75 Chappellet. Youthful with sweet dark currant, graphite, tobacco leaf and smoke. Muscular and powerful, tasting maybe 20 years younger than its true age. Long life ahead. 93-94

November 7, 2019 - Chocolate, dark currant, menthol, tobacco and earth. Very youthful for its age with bright acidity. Elegant and complex. Classic napa from the golden age.

  • jsteach Likes this wine: 97 points

May 5, 2017 - An amazing bottle of classic California Cab. Has plenty of acid to go another 20 years

May 21, 2016 - A bit one dimensional. High alcohol. Probably over the hill.

  • William Kelley Likes this wine: 95 points

March 7, 2015 - The saturated ruby-black 1975 Chappellet burst from the glass with expressive and youthful aromas of ripe black cherries, hot bricks, cigar ash and iron. On the palate the wine is incredibly youthful, with a masculine personality and a deep core of fruit: the tannins are nicely melted, but this wine still has an imposingly large-scaled structure. While the wine is classically-proportioned it is difficult to imagine confusing it with a Bordeaux because of its unique aromatics and palate impression; but if one had to pick an estate that this evokes, it would be the late, lamented La Tour Haut Brion.
