October 26, 2019 - Burgundy Focused Evening at Dave's: This pours impressively youthful with only light bricking noted. The nose is of forest undergrowth, moss, light touches of soy and hoisin, beef stock, and plenty of bright sour red cherries. The palate is where I found this really shone. Wonderfully high acid keeps this really fresh and plays nicely against the sour cherry fruit. There is very low dusty tannin still providing a touch of grip. The finish might just be clipped just a touch short.

October 26, 2019 - Hardly any bricking...impeccably stored.
Nose is really pretty....red fruit, moss, red flower, earth, soy, oxo beef boullion. This is really still alive.
Palate pure red cherry, soy, earth, moss, beef boullion
Finish is where this drops a bit....it is shorter....medium.
Stunning wine though. -

June 28, 2019 - Musique & Vin Paulée Musicale BYO Dinner (Château de Meursault): Small glass, brief note. Ripe red cherry and berry with lots of mature notes. Ripeness gives this a level of simplicity and less complexity vs better vintages. Good now.

May 18, 2017 - What Would Chris Cornell Drink?
One of my heroes died today, and I've been a morose bastard all day.
After a long day of emotional roulette, I wearily wondered what might be appropriate for the moment. Something that might make me feel better, and honor a man that shaped my world, (though we never met - I'm not that cool).
I thought back to the time of my life when I listened to Soundgarden non-stop. One of my fondest memories was a road trip to White Sands, New Mexico. There are snow white sand dunes as far as the eye can see. You will get lost and die if there's a strong wind covering your tracks, because your tracks are only way to know the way back (this was before GPS and cell phones thank you very much -and for all I know they don't work today, so far removed from civilization).
The sand is the same in every direction and the sky moves perpetually. You will get utterly lost so much faster than you think. First thought when you enter is "no worries this is easy" and 15 minutes later... "wait... what?... where?"
OOPS Burgundy friends another 3,000 word "Alex special" novel/tasting note emerged. Seriously Burg brings it out of me... No more story, here's the tasting note...

I wanted something old and relevant, just like the great music I'd spent 10,000 hours of my youth listening to.
Garnet color with minuscule bricking -- ain't she pretty?
The nose was soft and fragrant, didn't take a moment to wake up after its 41 year slumber. "I'm here" she announced without a moments hesitation.
Raspberry, sous bois, chalk, earth... and... a slight tinge of grunge 😜
Overall? This wine is not Mozart, and it's not John Lennon. But it's MY Mozart and MY John Lennon.
It makes this bitter moment a bit sweeter, and a lot more memorable.
I have learned about myself tonight. I learned that I am a sentimental man. And that I would rather drink a good wine that is old than a great wine that is young.
I love this wine and say goodbye to my last bottle.
And I wonder, in heaven do we all get front row seats to our favorite bands? Will Johnny Cash, David Bowie, Lou Reed, John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker, Chris Cornell, Andy Wood, and anyone else who piques my fancy play for me any night?
I bet the music in heaven is amazing. And the wine 🍷1 person found this helpful Comment -

November 17, 2016 - Dark color minimal bricking, surprisingly accessible from the first pour. Strawberries, sour cherry, sous bois, and chalky mineral finish. Decent length, it won't be mistaken for a Grand Cru, but pristinely stored bottles may well be even more interesting than this fine bottle (had a roughed up label and soaked cork) - which I'd be quite happy to drink again.
