August 24, 2020 - Bordeaux 1990 horizontal tasting (Fribourg): 1990 Bordeaux horizontal hosted by a private collector. 30 years down the road, the vintage comes across as bold and muscular, youthful and in general not yet open for business or at times closed. Highlighs included Figeac, Haut-Brion, Mouton, Calon Ségur – and to my surprise – Marquis de Terme. See tasting story for more take-aways and the complete line-up.

    Tasting note
Not overly expressive, quite restrained fruit, but if you look long enough you‘ll find fresh red raspberry and a bit of strawberry in the mix. Unexciting palate with slightly coarse tannin and acidity that didn't fit well with a lack of texture. At its current stage, the weakest showing of an Evangile I've had so far.

May 29, 2020 - Drinking well as a 30th wedding anniversary bottle. Great balance, lovely fruit, complex and complete.

March 11, 2020 - Single Blind 1990 Bordeaux (The Bristol - Chicago, IL): Mature plum nose with some moderate notions of herb. Plump fruit on the palate with resolved structure. Less intense finish. Solid but this bottle's best days are past.

March 11, 2020 - 1990 Bordeaux Dinner (The Bristol - Chicago IL): Single blind at 1990 Bordeaux dinner. Darn, this seemed ripe but slightly tiring. I think I gave this too much air because of schedule problems (open 4 hours, 1 in decanter). Still on the rugged side.

December 7, 2019 - Surprisingly light maroon at the edge already and loosening up a bit on the palate. Nevertheless the bouquet is reassuring lovely and the wine fruity in the red cherry, red berry register that marks out Merlot in Pomerol. Tender tannins, decent acidity. It’s very nice for sure but lacks the intensity and energy of the great 1982 vintage.

November 15, 2019 - Good, but not nearly as great as the 90 Evangile can be. Unfortunately the 90 Evangile seems to be quite variable (or I have been unlucky). This particular bottle shows blackberry, herbaceous notes, and mineral without the richness or complexity that better bottles show.

November 15, 2019 - Mellow fruit, bit cedar, a little dry initially at the end but opening up. Good wine, solid.

November 3, 2019 - 2hr decant. Drinking great now, unlikely to improve in the bottle further. Typical, yet great expression of Pomerol.
