March 11, 2022 - Nice bottle age, in a very good place right now.

December 26, 2020 - We opened this 2007 Rudius Syrah, following the 2015 Julien Cecillon St. Joseph Babylone we had over dinner. Eight years and a world of difference. I can't remember the last time I had back to back Syrah in one evening; perhaps never.

Out of the decanter, the darkest of brown immersed in a sea of deep red. A powerful nose of anise, licorice, herbal aromatics and eucalyptus. Sadly, the taste is far less complex.

In the mouth, a tug of war is waged between the forces of balance and subtlety against raw dark fruit flavors. In search of integration, one only finds opposition. Sadly, the finish ends rather abruptly. On reflection, the nose may offer you the most pleasing experience.

December 10, 2020 - Rich, deep ruby. Light black pepper and good red berry fruit. Sufficient acid to keep it interesting although the ripeness is a bit too much. The age is just right for drinking now. No need to wait longer. Enjoyable but not great.

June 17, 2020 - Complex nose of tile, blueberries, and zabaglione. This is an expansive wine. Excellent acidity. Notes of Maine blueberries, red zinger tea. One of the better wines I've had from Rudius. Now is a good time to drink this.

May 2, 2018 - Drinking beautifully right now. Decanted for 90 mins and then drank over the next 45 mins. Dark and blue Fruit has taken a slight back seat to the bacon fat/ cured meat. Slight white pepper, barnyard, and flint. Very good and I wish I had more. Reminds me a lot of Northern Rhone on a warmer vintage. Great juice!
