March 19, 2023 - This is the wine we started with today - the 2nd Brunello vintage for Stella. This is a ripe, heady wine on the nose, but nicely balanced on the palate. A good snapshot of where the estate was at that time, but it’s clear, at least to me, that the winemaking took a noticeable upturn in future years. More rustic than subsequent vintages.

October 2, 2022 - Unfortunately I just had a glass of the delicious 2007 version of this wine - if I had thought this through, I would have reversed the order.

That said, this is still a fine effort, if not quite reaching the highs of the first wine. If anything, this wine is even earthier/more rustic on the nose, so no complaints from this drinker in that regard. Very, very good, but just short of deelish.

August 6, 2021 - PnP after receiving shipment of lovely auctioned Italian wines 11 days earlier. Bit nervous that patience should have won, but having Pizza, wings, and meatballs from a new place, Rebellion, and it required an Italian. As Italians are wont to do, it performed beautifully. Deep maroon, more brown than red, with a kiss of light at the edge and so much depth on the nose. I imagine this is what the wine cellar smells like, dark red berries enveloped by an earthiness with a slight acidic backbone. Finishing on the nose, just a hint of heat from alcohol peeks through. Velvet on the lips, a touch of berry and a blanket of dark fruit hits mid palate. Very mild tannins and complexity is welcomed on the back of my palate and good finish. Grazie, Stella! Stems up!

November 21, 2020 - Had this side by side with the 04. The latter was better, but this was very good too (though it felt like the older wine). Stella is such an amazing producer - her wines are almost Burgundian in style.

October 12, 2019 - A nose that is quite similar to that '99 Pertimali I just tried. Maybe just the change of seasons here in the Delaware Valley, but I could see this nose being described as Autumnal.

More expansive on the palate than the older wine, with better persistence and more noticeable acidity. While 2005 doesn't have the "classic" status of either '04 or '06, right now it might be the better drinking, useful while we wait for the other vintages to hit their prime.
