  October 30, 2022 - My last bottle. Stood up for several weeks and then decanted off sediment for 1h then back into bottle. Complex aromas of olives, blackberries, cherries, brambles, and a bit of roasted meat. Palate with starts with just ripe blackberry and cherry fruits followed by olives, game meats, and brambles. Nice acids with medium+ tannins on a medium body. Bright and elegant but still some muscle. Excellent showing esp. given the tough vintage.

  March 27, 2022 - Slight stable smell, together with evolved fruit profile and dominance of aromatic herbs. Palate is thin to medium bodied, elegant but lacking stuffing. Acidity is in balance but the wine requires food to be drunken with. Not a modern Rhone, quite the opposite. I wonder whether this bottle shows some defaults or if it is the result of a challenging vintage

  February 7, 2022 - Will T’s St Joseph @ Hawksmoor (Hawksmoor, Guildhall): Slightly dull ruby. Nicely peppery nose. Ready and with a spot of character. Lacks some depth and length, but interesting and ready to go. Good effort given the more difficult vintage. Bare ****

  December 31, 2021 - Served double blind. Olives galore. Like, to the (almost) detriment of everything else. A little smoky as well, I guess. Unmistakeably northern Rhone syrah, though. The palate is thinning out, and shows quite a bit of age as well. The general lack of distinct fruitiness had me thinking this was one of the relatively mature vintages, perhaps 2000 or 2004. 2008 was also a contender but I found the fruit more advanced here than it ought to have been. High acid and saline elements; relatively little fruit remaining. Given the age I was thinking that Côte Rôtie would have been the guess, but with 2008 St. Joseph would also have been in play. As a postscript, it's been years since I've had this -- previously it was back in the day when Tru was still operating, and this was sitting on the list for under $100, and you could have it as often as you wanted, too...
