January 20, 2022 - Bottle 1362/1982. A subtle whiff of reduction greets, it’s an immensely dense wine at first compared to the open knit and fruit driven Reignots but it is so with a tightly knitted mineral web that lends it some immense freshness, a hint of freshly ground coffee bean and cut at the same time. Soaring cinnamon with more coaxing, majestic and ethereal. It’s an immense achievement of a wine and this being my third encounter showed much like the first time (rated 98) while a second bottle which was also absolutely delightful was more dark, salty and caramel (rated 96). Louis Michel made some astounding 08s and this bottle just goes further to cement this. They are also in a nice spot although I always feel Eche needs more time than Reignots for example but they always drink well “young” too chez CLB. Drink now - 2040. 97+

December 6, 2021 - During an evening where we also had a Reignots 08 (which to me pipped this Eche on this occasion). My second time with this wine and it didn't quite reach the same dizzying heights I experienced with a bottle earlier this year which was almost off the charts (rated 98). This bottle was excellent but showed different: quite brooding at first with lots of blueberry, on the nose a lot of salted caramel, some sous bois, very deep and packed and stacked and muscular (especially compared with the airy open and mesmerizing Reignots 08). Got better and better with air.

September 23, 2021 - Comte Liger Belair does it - again! The line-up over a lovely dinner at Bibendum was great with Leflaive Chevalier 08, DRC GE 06 and Roumier Charmes 02 and we decided to pull the cork of the CLB together with the DRC to put those two great domaines up next to each other. When the cork of CLB was pulled the genie came out of the bottle immediately. SOARING cinnamon, baking spice. Such a genius wine that immediately revealed itself, yet it held for the next 3 hours we savoured the bottle and if anything just became finer, more mineral. A total beauty and to it did slightly dwarf the DRC GE 06 - which of course in its own right was also beautiful, but side by side just had a difficult standing next to this ever intoxicating elixir grafted my the Vicomte. Lucky enough to have drunk Suchots, Reignots and Romanee 08 this year as well I would rank this Eche a tiny notch above the Reignots even in this vintage. Both are exceptional though and drinking really really well. Sadly my only bottle of Eche 08.

June 26, 2017 - Winos' excellent adventure in France; 6/22/2017-6/27/2017 (All over France): Perhaps due to the vintage and vineyard, the nose is decidedly red. Beautiful mature nose, which is a bit surprising, displaying bright red fruits, raspberry, strawberry and rhubarb tart, spicy spices, noticeable sous bois, grilled shiitake, a hint of oak a la sesame and tree bark. Nicely integrated harmonious palate, beautifully layered succulent red fruits, bright acidity, strong presence of mineral and a long decadent red fruit driven finish. This has already reached its youthful peak and drinking beautifully.

January 14, 2017 - very nice and open.
The wood is now integrated in the wine which offers plenty of fruit and backbone.
red berries and fleshy and dairy notes.
    drink now or soon.

November 4, 2016 - Great Young Echezeaux Dinner (goosefoot - Chicago IL): Open an hour+ before serving, this came across as tired and slightly oxidized. Nothing like another bottle from the same case opened late 2015.

September 13, 2016 - A little bit cooked, in terms of slightly stewed quality, higher acidity and lack of purity. That being said, I actually enjoyed the brutishness and slight bitterness here, which stood apart from the other Liger-Belair wines.
