March 17, 2020 - Very refined and smooth at this point. Blackberry and briars and an incredibly long finish. Really nice.

March 15, 2020 - No signs of discolouration. Dark fruit, plums, blackberries, spices, floral notes, minerality on the nose. On the palate fresh and grippy, lots of concentration, density. A little bitter. Mineral finish, very long. Approachable, but young. 92-94

March 8, 2020 - Popped and poured — the first consumed bottle out of a case. This is a vibrant red wine, one with some modest sediment toward the end of the bottle and some notable skid marks on the glass of the bottle. On the nose, I get ripe plums, blueberries, earth, and wet rocks. In the mouth, this is still full of fruit yet balanced (although a bit tight during the first hour or so; decanting is recommended) and simultaneously lush. The finish carries through the mixed berries, with some slight tannin and old chest sensations rising up. Overall, this is a very nice wine. It is clearly a Bordeaux and in fact could come from nowhere else. It is not marked by some of the purportedly negative aspects of the 2009 vintage elsewhere in the region. I am happy to have more bottles for the future. 92 points.

February 10, 2020 - Black fruits, violets, blackberries, wet forest floor, tobacco and spices, with a long warm finish and slight woody tertiaries. Full bodied and lush. Balance and rounded. In its prime. Open now

January 27, 2020 - A bit disappointing considering the price. Not as good as previous bottles I've had. Classy and pretty well-rounded, inviting, but definitely missing an x factor. Also, more recent vintages of Malescot seem to be stronger and much better value. Even the '17, which I tried last week was showing so well, possibly even better than this '09 in some respects.

(Chateau Malescot St-Exupéry Margaux) This year this is Cabernet Sauvignon 51%, Merlot 37%, Cabernet Franc 8% and not forgetting the Malbec which weighs in at 4%. A nice nose here, sweet and slightly smoky fruit, very open and attractive aromatics. Sweet and creamy fruit on the palate too, broad, with a forest fruit style together with notes of plum. A good grip here, rather tight but velvety tannins and balanced acidity bringing some life to the blend. Everything here seems very harmonious. Overall a wine with excellent potential.
