November 13, 2016 - Just finished my last one. Very good value. dark, full flavor, very little tannin and yes that port undertone
June 28, 2014 - Dark color. As others have noted, the nose is port -like with some earthiness. Palate is black cherry and prunes. Not complex, but a great value at $11.
February 8, 2012 - The nose reminds me of port with aromas of prune, dark cherry, and earthiness. On the palate, same flavors as are present on the nose. Agree with other reviewer, dusty tannins. Great with plate of cheese and crackers
February 3, 2012 - A nice little wine, aromatically similar to port but far less alcoholic. Rich layered flavors like port but also light and bright on the palate. Ready now but will probably hold up another couple of years. Good match for carnitas tacos.
December 7, 2011 - Aromas of black fig, and stewed meat with touches of warm stone, herbs, and cooked cherries. The palate has light fruit flavors with chocolate, dusty tannins and wood. good acidity keeps this in check. the finish has prune notes with a coffee tinge and is short /medium in length.
September 2, 2011 - Nice easy drinker with decent balance. Good "red table wine" quality.
May 1, 2011 - Smells like a port and drinks like a wine. Not the most fruity but nice tannins add to the structure. It improved with decanting.
April 7, 2011 - Wine Enthusiast's Toast of the Town (City Hall, San Francisco): Good old world nose and quality, dusty, fruity. Palate has good weight, tannic structure, low fruit that won't last long enough for tannins to integrate or to cellar. That may be a problem.
March 7, 2010 - Purple, red core turning red at the rim. Nose of spicy fruit, cedar and eucalyptus. Palate has soft tannins that outweigh the acidic side. Dark fruits, more eucalyptus and some meatiness on the palate. Plush but not full-bodied. Finish lingers nicely. 50+4+13+16+4
