January 21, 2024 - Still in a great spot! Perfect cork. This is in the tertiary phase but the positive one. Has more years in it. A classic aged bordeaux

December 28, 2023 - When this is on, as it was last night, it is one of the best values of the 1996 vintage. Cedar, graphite, red and blue fruits and just a little rustic green note which I love. Drinking so well now, wish I had more of this.

October 31, 2023 - Winefield's dinner: Surprisingly fresh even though slightly fading fruit. Oak still prominent. Solid Bordeaux from a transition period between the classic and Parker-eras.

September 17, 2023 - Bought three bottles in perfect conditions for around 33 CHF apiece on ricardo.ch based on a discussion on JR's forum.
I can confirm that this is an excellent mature bordeaux punching well above its weight. Truly delightful. We had it with food but it could also be had on its own.

August 13, 2023 - Classic styled Bdx in its prime. Maybe a few years over the top but still very enjoyable. Tertiary notes of wet leaves, tobacco and pencil shavings on the nose. On the palate the fruit has gone but there are very nice tertiary aromas. All in all a very pleasing and fresh QPR-wine!

July 28, 2023 - This wine has a lovely astringent bite that melts into a slightly sweet and long aftertaste. This wine still has a way to go before being a point. I feel it is consistently undermarked because of its pedigree. It’s definitely a sleeper! Jancis Robinson gave it 17.5/20 in 2011 and said of it: “I have chosen to illustrate this [article] with the label of Ch Lafon-Rochet 1996 because it seems to me to be the best-value wine in the following collection of 50 tasting notes.”

July 7, 2023 - Blackberry, red fruit, mushrooms, earth, herbs. Delicious with the porterhouse and strip steak.

July 7, 2023 - After having a few bottles recently, I have deduced this needs at least six hours of decanting. It then becomes absolutely magical. Fabulous wine! Fully mature and will go on for another 5 years or so.
