February 12, 2022 - Retail $50. Under cork. Sadly, this is the last bottle of this wine we have, and it happened to be signed by Maggie and Hank Skewis, who retired from the wine business a few years ago. This might be the best of all the Pinots produced by Skewis (although, to be honest, I do not know what their criteria were for the "Reserve"). Medium color in the glass with an absolutely gorgeous nose of black cherry pie, clove, dried rose petal, and Christmas spice. Whoa. The palate is easily the equal of the nose, with rich fruit, plenty of weight, depth, and an acidity that really runs the show. Nearly fifteen years out? Yeah, the wine world lost a master when Hank retired.

March 27, 2021 - Retail $48. My son was having his friends over for a poker tournament for his 18th birthday and I was in need of something good (those of you who have had eight teenagers screaming in your kitchen know what I mean). This was the call. Whoa Nellie. I last had this wine in 2015 and based on the comments and suggested consumption date, I should have had this second bottle (and the third that is still in my cellar) shortly after the first. Um no. There is no doubt that this wine is drinking better than that first bottle a handful of years ago. Rich black cherry on the nose with earth, leather, spice (cinnamon?), and a whole lot of Whoa. The palate, as hard as it is to believe, is even better. Fruity? Yes, but also quite layered and a little bit rustic--what always identifies Hank and Maggie's wines for me. Holy cow, this has really improved and has convinced me to hang on to the last bottle for a spell (although a ton of convincing was not required--I have known for some time that Skewis wines can age for just about as long as you want).

April 7, 2016 - Ah Hank and Maggie....I recently learned that you will be retiring and heading off to that wine cellar in the distance. I wish you the best of luck, but I will miss your deft hand in making some of the best Pinot in California. This is no different: tart cherry and a bit of earth, this is what California Pinot should be. Reserved, tasty, contemplative, it is all there. Wonderful. I will be holding on to my last few Skewis wines with white knuckles. Cheers. thedrunkencyclist.com.

November 15, 2015 - Typical well made modern pinot from California but at a great QPR versus some of the more expensive players in this arena. Big whack of dense cherry fruit and spice. A hint of cola. Round and lush on the palate. Better as a aperitif or post meal glass than with food. I'm not super into this category but I can see the appeal for those who are.
