September 26, 2022 - Atypically dark for a Whitcraft Pinot with a volatile bouquet of stewed plum, perfume, and alcohol. Ripe, rich plum and dark cherry and some beach tar and mushroom on the palate. Very niceā€¦but there is 0 acidity. This landed flaccid and flat. I reserved a glass for day two, and the wine unfolded a touch, but it was, bottom line, sappy and flat in texture despite nice, deep flavor.

June 11, 2017 - 2007 WHITCRAFT MELVILLE VINEYARD SANTA RITA HILLS PINOT NOIR- 15.4% abv.; I brought to a tasting this knowing the SRH Pinot theme; made by my dear and now deceased friend, Chris Whitcraft, I would have loved to have shared this bottle with him as it gave and gave wondrous notes; it definitely had a fruit profile that is associated with higher alcohol, but it mellowed out and was quite pleasant as well as nicely balanced; there was super ripe cranberry and red cherry along with a hit of spice, cola and clove; it was of medium weight and body and held on for a grand finale.

January 25, 2012 - Deep dark color, looks like Syrah not Pinot Noir. Smell of stewed cherry fruit and alcohol. Similar on the palate, hot alcoholic finish. Says 15.4% on the label but probably higher. Disappointing purchase - other 2 bottles were consistent. Oh well...sometimes you lose. Avoid due to lack of varietal character and poorly made.

February 15, 2011 - Cranberry and spices. A perfect balance of acid to make for a good food wine, it went great with some aged english cheddar.
