Community Tasting Notes 8

July 30, 2021 - Popped and poured. Aromas are savoury, meaty, earthy with slightly sour smelling black currant. Juicy acidity, dark hued fruit initially and, with time, a bit of a strawberry jam note. There is also a slightly green note here as well. Chalky tannic grip helps with food. Quite fresh as well but generally not that impressive.

June 19, 2020 - Wine Library, Sydney: The note from graemeg in July 2019 is a good description imo. Dark crimson. Very earthy on the nose at first, some black fruit and spice came with time. Full bodied and tannic, even for a Gevrey-Chambertin. Not a great vintage so didn't expect too much. But still very pleasant.

According to the producer, the Seuvrees vineyard is below the Charmes Grand Cru, and planted with 60-yo vines (presumably 50 when this was made). Developing nose; it’s meaty and smoky, with tar, dirt and rotting red berries. The palate is rustic and maturing, black-fruited, subtly oaked, with medium/full-body, medium gritty tannins and fairly understated acidity. Improved with time in the glass. The just-medium length finish is weighted a bit towards the front of the tongue. Ready to drink, may hold a while.

November 18, 2018 - Bottle variation! Again a nice wine, though perhaps a little imbalanced. The last bottle I said was young with some life in front of it, this one I would say is perhaps at or past its best. Its the acidity that is standing out (not in a good way). Decent enough though.

April 22, 2017 - Estella's 50th Part two: Farmyard, meaty, savoury, muted black fruits. Quite acidic, tart and hard, black fruits. Hmm
