February 15, 2020 - Had Vina Enoteca open this in 5 hours in advance of meal.
Perfect cork - ahso opened from Rocco.
Gorgeous clear red orange with a touch of brown
Nose of tart prunes with dusty cutrus. Smelled rich at first then went flabby. It should knit back together. There's a caramel note too.
Big energy on the palate. Perfect acidity with prunes and dried apricots and dusty cutrus with a caramel note on the finish.
Energy fades quickly tho. But amazing.
Coco dust, cigar and a spicey cake starts to show.
New pour
Opening fast!
Lots of caramel plums nose.
Palate is denser and more full and round. Great balance.
6:11pm
Bigger fuller nose slightly metallic, smoke, cigar, with a dried cherry dust and blackberry touches. There's orange rind and very subtle spices
Palate is full! Not flabby at all. Bigger dense. Balanced. Amazing juice.
Lots of flowers with spices and aromatics of elegant baking with a sharp crisp tannin that lingers and burns off the spices with a rather large herbal of baking herbs displayed.
What I really love about this is the dense rich spices. Just an amazing unique taste typical good Barolo.
There's some great anise lurking in there. But love that tart and the herbal finish
That herbal concentration keeps getting stronger.
I lament that I can't keep till tomorrow, as it's a restaurant pour. Vina Enoteca - best Italian on the Peninsula - let this bottle rest upright for 6 months. Thanks Rocco.1 person found this helpful Comments (2) -

August 12, 2017 - Quite a bit of mocha/chocolate sneaking into the aroma profile. After plenty of air you get some smoke, tar, burnt fig and raisins. It is ripe and heady but has all sorts of earthy nuance. There's plenty of chew to the finish and it finishes with a suggestion of scorched earth.

July 27, 2015 - Jdunlap and others shared this at my house since there were two people who shared this birthyear at the party. He nailed the description below, except he scored it too low :). As this was not a single vineyard and I have no idea what the provenance of this wine was for 32 of its 33 years, I consider this a resounding success. Tar and roses and leather and tart cherry and still some tannins. 13.5% alcohol. If only all old bottles turned out this way. Drink now.

July 27, 2015 - I like this wine given its age. Cork in great shape and good length. Tawny red color, but looks good given its age. Nose and palate of rubber, tar, apple, meat, and a very fleeting high note of banana. Flavors are integrated and tannins are pretty much resolved. OK, this is an interesting wine and processes the recognizable components of a Barolo; however, it probably was a better wine five years ago. Good overall, but drink up.
Severed at jeffreylubowski's tasting. Thanks! -

July 8, 2014 - Nebbiolo: Camomilla, foglie secche autunnali, cenere, radice, fiori azzurri, complesso. Terziarizzazione da classico vecchio nebbiolo in splendida annata. Lento nel concedersi. Da ascoltare in silenzio.
