April 24, 2023 - Three flawed bordeaux reds (Tilia): Three Bordeaux enthusiasts meet for dinner, and all three Bordeaux wines are flawed the same way? I think these were. All three decanted 1-2 hours, put back into the bottle, and then I drank about 1/3rd of each bottles over 3 hours.

1995 Château Léoville Poyferré - St. Julien
    1996 Château Lagrange (St. Julien)
    2000 Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte

The Lagrange was mine, I'd had it a couple years ago with a 1 hour decant and it was gangbusters. Tonight, some bordeaux nuance on the nose, and the palate is slightly sour and forgettable. Same with the other 2, the Leoville was the most sour, such that the owner had brought a backup and seemed concerned. At the very beginning, I got a distinct but light whiff of nail polish. These weren't obviously flawed, not corked, but they didn't show the way that they should. I'm leaving them unscored and likely flawed with volatile acidity. If I had to score them, they'd probably be 88-89.

Funny but under these circumstances, my starter white, an inexpensive Condrieu, was clearly wine of the night. And no one brought a Sauternes. So sad.

Amazingly, despite all these issues, we still had a good time. Maybe there's hope for the world after all, cuz this tasting was endtimes.

March 4, 2023 - A Margaux at Margaux's Table (Margaux's Table, White Bear Lake, MN): Very dark red/purple color. Double decanted for an hour. Drank 2 glasses over 2.5 hours. My oh my, this was in great place and actually held its own next to a stellar '96 Margaux. Man the nose is awesome, even better than the Margaux at first. Leather, creosote, tar, crushed flowers, bacon fat and gamey sauvage character, dark fruits, graphite. The palate is very good too, showing tangy cassis and succelent dark berries, mineral dense, graphite, dark chocolate, hints of blue fruits, very polished and long. Way out kicked its coverage. Great future.

February 14, 2023 - Excellent showing of this bottle. Complex tertiary Bordeaux notes with forest floor, dark fruit, gingebread. Generous mid mouth palate, solid tannins that provide structure. Excellent Claret.

February 5, 2023 - Vinetasters: 2000 Bordeaux (Park Ridge, IL): Served double blind. Slightly bretty nose with a touch of oak as well. Very sweet and quite ripe, with large-scaled structure on the palate. A leathery profile, with nice acids on the finish. Not as pronounced as far as the fruit goes, but there's enough to keep all of the previous notes in check. My 3rd, group's 1st.
