    September 12, 2020 - Very good again

August 8, 2020 - Two-plus hour decant. Deep garnet clearing at the edges. Fresh and vibrant nose showing mostly currant & cassis, rosemary, allspice, violet and cedar. Vivid intensity to the flavors, with terrific integration of primary black fruit and secondary floral spices. Elegantly textured, cool & sleek, medium bodied. Still dense and linear in middle, which is the only thing holding this wine back at this point. Well-integrated medium acidity and fine dense medium tannins. Medium length and nice concentration on the finish. 92+

July 24, 2020 - Still young, not very exciting.

July 16, 2020 - Popped and poured. This was delicious--fruity, soft and left me wanting more of it.

May 2, 2020 - 3hr air out of a .375. I get more and more impressed with this wine every time I taste it. This time tried it right on the heels of a SQN This is Not an Exit and let me tell you this wine did not really suffer in comparison. Different notes from last tasting: this time the nose had a strong vanilla/ pine resin scent accompanying the blueberry/pomegranate notes. Red berry and menthol on the palate. Fairly high acidity. The least forward 2009 I have tasted. Just entering a good drinking spot but still needs lots of air at this point. Better in another 5 years.
Score: 92-93. Relative to expectations: +

(Clos de Marquis St Julien) A contemporary of Léoville-Las-Cases; same estate, different vineyards. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. IPT 62, alcohol 13.8%, new oak 25%. Nicely refined fruit character here, open and fresh. The palate starts off with a gently composed substance, but then shows a darker cherry character to the fruit, although it maintains a freshness throughout. Good supple tannins, not overbearing, nice acidity too. At the moment it is very soft and youthful but it will come together with time. Just a touch of fleeting heat detracts. But overall an understated wine which could be very good.
