September 24, 2010 - Southern Rhone WIMPS (The Ledbury, London): Magnum. Quick sip. Mellow and mature nose, somewhat farmyardy. All together on the palate, mature, interesting but nothing profound. Very pleasant. ***1/2
March 25, 2010 - Definitive Rhone (Fabi and Rosi European Kitchen Austin, Texas): This wine had aged gracefully, and most tasters enjoyed it. It had a pretty nose, good acidity, a nice mid-palate, good ripeness, and resolved tannins. Rustic, but with pretty notes of baked red fruit, tart raspberry, cedar box, stewed tomato, rosemary, clove, and stewed blackberry with plum and strawberry overtones. Some tasters had difficulty finding the fruit and thought it tired and musty, while others found the wine surprisingly lively, a quarter century old and still kicking.
June 7, 2008 - amazing well aged bottle. The cork desintegrated during the opening and had to run through a metal screened areater, removed the cork. Aromas of stewed plums, canned tomatoes and very ripe cherry. great dark red with a clear miniscus at the edges of the glass. Tastes of meat, smoke, loamy decaying wood. Fruit takes a back seat, mostly of cranberries and cherry/ very enjoyable, would buy again. a lot going on
April 19, 2008 - Very solid traditional aged CNP, well liked by all, very typical, not over the hill. Barrique Wine Co. importation.
March 12, 2008 - A great wine. Nose initially of cherries with some lush dark purple fruits followed by wet riverstone, mushroom, smoked meat and truffle,
Great tastes of dried sour cranberries, red apples, planks of dry wood, with a tart dry medium finish followed by a lush mouthfeel. Nose opened up after 1 hour of decanting. Very rich satisfying and round. The cork was in great shape, minimal penetration. I have one other I am looking forward to sharing. Bricking around the edges. I can catch the nose wafting over to me from the table. paid 26 dollars at auction. Had this with braised lamb shanks,
January 5, 2007 - Well-aged CDP, not at all tired. When opened taste and aroma primarily cherry and other red fruit. Not decanted. Over 2 hours or so, flavors migrated to soy sauce and spiced meat. Quite funky at the end. Quite a treat.
April 30, 2005 - 1990 and older Châteauneuf-du-Pape offline at Kaspar's (Seattle, WA): Showing somewhat oxidized and a bit tired. The palate greets you with ample barnyard and a mouthful of sweet grenache, very pure and very dry.
December 31, 1994 - Rim still pinkish but turning brickish. Slight tannin. Very meaty, chewy flavors but delicious and balanced.
August 16, 1990 - Slightly pale rim, but not orange. Nose very fruity. Mouth ripe, olives, and raspberries, long smoky finish. GREAT!
