October 6, 2020 - Trotted out a couple of somewhat elderly St Emilion the past couple of weeks, one of which was almost entirely consigned to a stock. This one was entirely drunk. Interesting to compare with my note from years back as I thought this time that it was leaner and had more in character with a left bank than a typical St. Emilion. If one can make such sweeping distinctions. Very Bordeaux cigar box and old drawing rooms on the nose, quite lean but clean berry fruit, mild tannins, drinking quite nicely and still representing a fabulous value.

December 9, 2019 - Further to my note of Jan 3 '19: Another bottle with consistent notes--still notable but nothing more. Will try again.

January 3, 2019 - Bought 6b for 15/b from Binny's almost 9 years ago; buried for a while--this is our first bottle. Decanted with normal sediment for its age; initial leathery nose and subdued fruit but gained in nose and body over an hour with more mature red fruit. Tasty, short of delicious, but I wonder if it might have gained with more time; we'll see next time. Stored horizontally in a cool, dark basement since purchase. My evaluation: I've stopped giving scores on a "100-point scale" as I've become less convinced that they can be meaningful to others. I use a 4-category scale (perhaps with +/-)--not including flawed--which runs outstanding/notable/drinkable/poor. I considered this notable when considering quality, age, and price.

June 27, 2018 - Wow, really coming into its own. Gaining weight and complexity. Nose had cedar, earth and black fruit, and getting very open. Tertiary flavors are really coming through. Similar to last notes. Nice red and black fruits, light cedar/oak, with more mature tastes of dirt and mushroom, super strong minerality, lighter drying tannins, good acidity and a very long dry black fruit finish. This has at least 5 more years left, probably 10+ (assuming you like fully mature older Bordeaux)

July 12, 2016 - Drinking great at ten years. Rich red fruit with subtle earthiness coming in. Smooth from start to finish. Tannins almost are resolved. Drink now or over the next year or so.
