March 5, 2019 - Goût American; heated, somewhat alcoholic, extracted - a well done wine. Will it get there? i doubt it ...

January 11, 2019 - Deep ruby core with fading, almost colorless rim. With air time, bursting aromas of blackberry, tar, bonfire, expresso, vanilla, nutmeg and black truffle. Silk like palate despite of its immense concentration of milk chocolate, mineral, ripe blue and red fruits, well integrated toasty sweet oakiness, earth, hint of savoury and nuttiness developing on the lingering finish. Layered, transparent and focus.

December 15, 2018 - Big dark wine. Was enjoyable now but should improve. Decanted three hours before tasting. Had with rare rack of lamb. Brought it out. The wine filled your mouth. I will try again in 3 years. Had paired with a 2004 Leoville Las Case. Both were excellent.

July 18, 2018 - If you have been hearing about the level of wines from Vieux Chateau Certan and you want to know what all the fuss is about, this is the wine to open. This is so sultry, sexy, silky and opulent, it is clearly in a league of its own. The fruit is perfectly ripe. There is a decadence to the texture that grips you and does not let go. The wine is rich, dense and intense, yet light on its feet. There are no edges. The wine is perfectly seamless.
Wines at this level do not come around often. This is a legend in the making.

July 11, 2018 - Trip of a lifetime- literally Bordeaux right/left and North/south Rhone: (Mouton, Cheval Blanc, Haut Brion, La Mission Haut Brion, Vieux Chateau Certan, Angelus, Pichon Baron, Smith Haut Lafitte, E.Guigal, M.Chapoutier, Château De Beaucastel, Stephane Montez, Jean Michel Stephan.

Great property, tasting and owner. Wines were fantastic, 2009 and 2015. Neither were ready but boy did they pack and awesome punch!

2009 has great dark red fruits, vanilla, alder, tobacco and strong mineral/iron finish that goes on and on. Looking to buy a number of multiple vintages and buy heavy on the 2015 and 2016 vintages. Excellent producer that is right now under valued to market.

(Vieux Chateau Certan Pomerol) This vintage the grand vin accounts for 70% of the harvest, with an assemblage of 84% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Yield 40 hl/ha. Alcohol 13.7%. Not a deeply coloured wine, cherry red with a pink rim. The nose has a beautiful creamed-fruit character, bright and with wonderful clarity. Served quite cool in Thienpont's cellars. Lovely elegant spice though. The palate begins very subtly, slowly building and opening out especially as the wine warms, but it maintains a fine elegance throughout. There is cream here, but also precision and definition. Ripe tannins, unobtrusive, harmonious, very much in keeping with the wine, and a fine core of acidity too. Such a lovely composition, with fine cottony tannins. This has a style very typical of Vieux Chateau Certan, the combination of succulence but also elegance. And with time will come complexity. Delicious.
