February 8, 2020 - Served from a Coravin. A massive wine. Great flavour and balance but a long way to go. Served with St brides duck with sweet & sour pumpkin.

December 29, 2019 - Lovely wine. Very young still but great presence and balance. Like all the 09 Bordeaux I've had so far it is very rounded. Blackberry, cloves, green pepper. Firm tannins, almost chalky. Nice acidity as well. A great overall package that should get better with more years.

November 23, 2019 - Coravined. Subtle and elegant. Rich aromas, silky body and softened tannins. Ready to drink

November 10, 2019 - Ten year CdP and Bordeaux retro tasting (with ringers). Hosted by Grinner.

Bordeaux Flight Three - Wine Five:

The disappointment of the tasting. By proclamation, the highest classed wine, yet it finished well behind many other 'lesser' wines. Lacking freshness, pitch, and tension, and featuring charred oak and slightly cooked purple fruit, along with a pinched greenish finish. Would not hold beyond 2029.

November 2, 2019 - The Annual Lyon 10 Year Retrospective (Chateau Lyon): My WOTN and a notch better than a 5/17 bottle. This bottle had a wide open nose with currant, cigar box, stone/iron, and flowers. Long and balanced. 95+ blind and settled to "just" 95 on day 2.

    My 5/17 note:
...the pencil and cigar box, the cassis, the stone, the flowers, and...ok you get it... It's complex, deep, balanced, and long. It will be amazing at our 10 year Retro in 11/19 and for 10 years after that! (6137 views)

(Château Gruaud Larose) Dark red violet color; very appealing, lifted, tart currant, cedar, herbaceous, pencil lead nose; classic, tasty, plush, pencil lead, tart currant palate; needs 2-3 years; medium-plus finish (65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot)

(Château Gruaud-Larose (St Julien)) A really perfumed, spicy, earthy intensity here, lifted with notes of sandalwood, no doubt oak-influenced to some extent. Gentle and elegant on the palate, supple, with a savoury and earthy edge to it matching that found on the nose. Overall I find the character of the wine very attractive, especially as it provides a respite from the sweet flesh of the vintage. A really strong wine for Gruaud, I've got a feeling this will settle out into a supple, elegant rather than very weighty wine, with lovely expression and finesse. If that is your style, then go for it.

(Chateau Gruaud-Larose St Julien) Another wonderfully vibrant youthful hue here. Well-framed fruit on the nose, dark, a touch smoky, with nice concentration suggested. Also some spicy fruit complexity. The palate has some good well-defined fruit, although in a slightly lush style. Very well integrated though, velvety tannins, but overall bright, vigorous and concentrated. Good sappy flavours on the finish. Fair length. Really good promise here, and possibly good value too.
