October 2, 2023 - The 2009 Talbot starts off a little reductive and requires plenty of time for that to blow off and for its nose to unfurl. The warmth of the vintage is on display; the red fruit which dominates the nose shows a slightly liqueur like quality, though the palate is a little cooler. Cedar and unsmoked tobacco follow with time, but overall this seems to be missing the depth which this vintage and chateau are capable of producing. Of course, this was a difficult era at Talbot which is now in the rear-view mirror. Followed for over a day, this can be enjoyed now with a couple of hours in the decanter. I would be inclined to hold these for a few more years, but not in the hopes that it will surprise.

September 22, 2023 - Decanted and served but definitely this needs some time to relax.
The nose is beautiful, bright , spice and darks fruits, classic from a to z. The palate was surprisingly sharp and tannic and for a 2009 St Julien we were expecting a lot more juicy side to it. Alas it is like this and probably needs a bit more age and a bit surprising given how much more welcoming it was 2 years ago ( Papies 92) .
