November 26, 2020 - Wonderful nose on opening. Left to breath a couple of hours which was seemingly a huge mistake. Although clearly v good quality, it was v muted / maybe what people call a dumb phase. I suspect a timing thing - sad to have got it so wrong!

November 26, 2020 - Having had the Dominus 2009 just a week earlier, this 2008 screamed to be opened. I preferred the 2009 over the 2008, even though the CT community disagrees (93.7pts vs 94.2pts). The biggest difference, in my opinion, between the two vintages is that the 2008 is significantly less polished, less elegant. It is a bold wine that is marked by its high complexity with the spiciness and dark fruit taking the centre stage. The 2009 showed very pury and weightless. My guess is that this will be much better in 20 years – it should have the structure and stuffing to go there (while the 2009 can be enjoyed today).
TN: Complex and intense on the nose and palate with lots of spices and herbs, cassis, blackberries and cherries, hints of baking spices, a layer of minerality. No sign of tertiary aromas yet. Still young and a tad wild. The aroma profile is quite complex, the intensity is very high and so is the precision. Good length with a long fruit- and spices-driven finish. There’s a wall of round tannins, a high but very well integrated acidity. Overall the wine is quite powerful and as mentioned above not as Bordeaux, not as elegant and weightless as the best vintages of this Domaine.
Decanting: PnP and the rest went into the decanter. It improved quite a bit with time in the glass becoming more expressive and harmonious. 2 hours of decanting is advised.2 people found this helpful Comment -

November 16, 2020 - Beautiful nose with lots of dark berries and some soft earthy notes. On the palate ripe cherries, blackberries, cassis, mushrooms and wet forest floor. Medium+ bodied with a fresh acidity. Very elegant and round. Nicely integrated polished tannins. Amazing complex structure and balance. Long savory finish.
In a good spot right now but it can easily age another decade.2 people found this helpful Comment -

September 6, 2020 - Expressive nose displaying intense ripe red fruit with a hint of blue, cherry concentrated, blackberry, a hint of cassis, dry herb, ink, licorice and mineral. Nicely integrated palate, layers upon layers of intense red fruit, dense yet silky and polished, bright acidity and mineral, and a long concentrated red and blue fruit driven finish with herb and lead pencil at the end. A hint of herb/green actually adds nice complexity. The ripeness is certainly Napa but there is some similarity to Bordeaux. Drinking nicely in a youthful way.

September 6, 2020 - not blind, Best vintages of Dominus, all bottles perfectly stored (subcription) and decanted for 2 hours
I prefer the 2007, this is a bit broader and Shorter in the finish. 95+1 person found this helpful Comment
