April 15, 2015 - Very smooth and well balanced. Flavors of black cherry and raspberry (on the finish). Silky tannins. A winemaker friend called this one of the best wines he has ever tasted.

March 23, 2015 - Taking on a Right Bank complexity and still showing lots of structure in its eighth year. This is a big and muscular Merlot that is starting to add more nuance to its black cherry and spice driven profile. This wine is still on the way up and I guess will still be going strong at age 15. Delicious and complex. www.advinetures.ca

February 14, 2015 - A very good merlot. Loads of dark red fruit and cocoa. Enjoy with filet mignon and grilled lobster.

December 31, 2014 - 2007 was as good as it gets in Washington, and this Woodward Canyon Merlot is still in a hopeful spot on its ageing curve. Still fresh and bright, the complex nose is generous with its dark chocolate, bark, and plum. More on the palate, but the acids are something to behold and lead you through a long finish of many good things. On day two, this is still holding up, with rich chocolate, olive and mint on the silky smooth palate. This is gorgeous palate-staining merlot with lovely, subtle complexity.

September 3, 2014 - This is a big, ripe merlot. Delicious and smooth, although not particularly complex. Drinking well now; I wouldn't expect much improvement.

August 15, 2014 - Mellow wine, well balanced, tannins in check, subdued fruit but a full texture.

November 26, 2013 - Would have agreed with those who were disappointed in this wine if I had only tasted the first night, as it was rather thin, acidic and a tad bit harsh. But the second night this wine became very full and robust with great mouthfeel and complex flavors trending to dark chocolate and sweet smokiness. Like this merlot as well as any I have had in a long time.

October 18, 2013 - Inky dark ruby, light red rim. Red currant nose. On the PnP, thin and raw with more acid than I like, and I like acid. Not flawed, but not to my liking and poured back in the bottle to fight another day, here's hoping that some air time will see marked improvement. Not what I was expecting, considering the price and reputation. Slightly better the next night, but not much. More like a thin, tart, austere PN. OK, another night and the body and fruit is starting to show, a little bitter with the bold tannins. Let this one rest for awhile. Four nights later, this wine is finally coming around, still a pretty bold wine in the fruit and tannins. If you find one lost in the cellar in five years, it should be pretty good. I should have waited.

June 1, 2013 - Dark red, youthful appearance. Nose was tight at first but opened to reveal black cherry, earth and plenty of spicecake. Medium to full bodied, this is a mouth-filling, balck fruit and spice dominated palate. Just entering maturity, the level of fruit and structure and the balance they show assure a long life ahead, with increased pleasure as more nuance develops. 92+ ("+" to indicate the potential to improve over time.)
