May 25, 2023 - Glass: Zalto Bordeaux
Popped and poured, drunk over two days. Clear, pale golden color. Clea, pronounced youthful-developing nose. Lots of ripe yellow stone fruit, rock flour, fresh herbs, lime. Dense, complex and multi-layered.
On the palate dry, high, ripe acidity, balancing the 13% abv beautifully. Wonderful grip and tension! Zesty notes, lots of rock flour, ripe stone fruit, some grapefruit, tobacco leaves. Very phenolic. Very long, fruit and zesty finish. Delicious and very joyful already, but certainly not yet at its very full peak. 94+
April 18, 2023 - A small impromptu dinner with Paul and Charles (Q by Peter Chang - Bethesda, Maryland): Expressive nose displaying ripe sweet yellow fruit, peach, lemon curd, baked apple, a hint of petrol, spicy spices and crushed rocks. Excellent concentration, nicely layered concentrated ripe yellow fruit, rich, dense and deeply toned but also show good precision and detail, bright acidity, strong mineral, and a long sweet concentrated yellow fruit driven finish. This is a big scale Riesling that is drinking beautifully.
January 8, 2023 - Kleur: Licht goudgeel, opvallend donker (voor Riesling). Aroma / bouquet: Bescheiden maar aangenaam bouquet, bescheiden 'goût de pétrol', een overrijp geel appeltje en een hint van nougat. Smaak / Afdronk: Een bijzondere combinatie. Enerzijds in alles Riesling, anderzijds opvallend rijk en rond. Een uitgesproken frisse zuurgraad, retronasale impressies van rijp citrusfruit, peer en gele appel. Lafdronk. Algemeen / potentieel: Serieus grootse Riesling met nog enkele jaren toekomst voor zich. 50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 92/100
Colour: Light golden yellow, strikingly dark (for Riesling). Aroma / bouquet: Modest but pleasant bouquet, modest 'goût de pétrol', an overripe yellow apple and a hint of nougat.[/i] Taste / Aftertaste:[/i] A special combination. On the one hand Riesling in everything, on the other hand remarkably rich and round. A pronounced fresh acidity, retronasal impressions of ripe citrus fruit, pear and yellow apple. cowardice. General / potential: Seriously great Riesling with a few years of future ahead of it. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Aftertaste: 17 + General / potential: 8 = 92/100
December 30, 2022 - A's Birthday dinner (Jade Palace): Blinded. Fresh linear, excellent balance with dense palate.
December 29, 2022 - Decanted into a Voss-btl ~3-hrs before dinner/serving. This was deliberately paired side-by-side the '09 Weil KG EG. Both (blinded) showed really young, with this Hubacker seemingly younger than the KG. Lovely, with scents of lemons, yellow-peach, apples and chalk hitting the senses, this pair was well-liked by all. Some preferred the Hubacker for its tension, precision/clarity & even elegance on the palate, whereas some preferred the KG for its sensuality. No guesses, however, zoomed into the '09-vintage - these 2 were anything but "hot"! Personally I'd put the KG just an inch ahead (for drinking today), but the Hubacker definitely has the tank to last a longer distance & continue excelling as it ages...
P.S.: Kept some for a 2nd-day dinner, and by then, it was clear that the Hubacker had pulled ahead, and the favourite one (this pair of Rieslings) for all 6 of us at the dinner.
April 29, 2022 - Eher dezentes, nach Luft schreiendes Bouquet mit etwas Zitrus, Wiesenkräutern, reifem Pfirsich und viel Mineralik; am Gaumen Geschmacksexplosion mit viel Frucht, gut eingebundener Säure und gutem Schmelz. Langer, komplexer Abgang! Und dazu sehr lecker
November 13, 2021 - Full throttle attack of sweet peaches, but then also a filigree minerality and acidity and melt that these very good German Rieslings bring to the table that make them so moreish. Served blind and it did remind me of Abts Erde 15 I had drank recently. Good now but will hold.
February 27, 2021 - A rich wine, elegant sour balls with a perfect combination of sweetness, citrus. Round and fresh. An amazing wine.
February 25, 2021 - A serie of superb Old World wines (Amsterdam): A lovely light to medium yellow , ripe with sweetness and underneath a good acidity in the bouquet, quite difficult to describe, followed by a very voluptuous taste, that pushes everything else away, but ending, just in time, in a friendly dry finish. The acidity becomes more prominent with the aeration and the aftertaste is extremely long. I suggest that this wine is still too young to show all its qualities.
