October 8, 2019 - Big, rich, concentrated. Very dark in color for 13 yo Sangiovese. Plush. Still it si very tasty. Oak is fully integrated. In its drinking window. No need to wait.

March 30, 2019 - PnP at restaurant. Very dark in color. At first, the nose was smoke, earth, cedar and black fruit. With time, vanilla and oak notes predominated. Modern style.

(ROSSO DI SERA Poggiopiano) Serra Dear Friends, You want an impressive wine? One that marries the best of the old with the best of the new? Here you go at a still reasonable price for the level they are playing in (2006 Ornellaia, etc). We've carried Poggiopiano's Rosso di Sera a number of times, if I recall the first vintage was the 1997, and they've always been impressive. While it's easy to say the current vintage is "the best ever!" (a quote that can sound like retailer drivel), in this case, the vines are a decade older and the vintage played right into the hands of this brooding and immensely deep Sangiovese-based wine. If you are into the thought of 2001 Brunello mixed with something like 2006 Montepeloso Nardo mixed with 2009 Pomerol, this wine comes close to a hybrid of the styles in a package that is going to bowl people over. The 2006 Rosso di Sera is a very serious and menacing wine that has designs on painting the inner reaches of your palate black as night (all while delighting your id and ego with the yin-yang of grace under pressure). David Sedaris has an unreleased story from his upcoming book that showcases a cute, normally well-mannered little bunny that decides he's tired of always being the cuddly one so he decides to tote a huge, sledgehammer of a stick to push his weight around the old fashioned way - with a rather impolite show of force. That's the 2006 Rosso di Sera in a nutshell - a gentleman that desperately wishes to be understood for what he/she really is - a beast with a respectful baseball bat in hand just in case your palate needs to be reminded who's in charge. The fascinating thing about the 2006 Rosso di Serra (a fitting name for a sanguine wine such as this that would appeal to the most famished of vampires) is that it never looses its focus, despite such a strong presence. It's another feather in the cap of 2006 in Tuscany and the more examples I taste from the vintage (after they've been in bottle for a year or two), the more I am convinced it is one of the finest vintages since 1990: The 2006 IS VERY RARE - ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND, even in Tuscany: 2006 Poggiopiano Rosso di Sera 750ml ...and a few hand-bottled "reserve" level 3.0's that are supposed to be off the wall in quality (as far as I know, only 12 x 3.0's of the 2006 were produced - rare indeed)... 2006 Poggiopiano Rosso di Sera 3.0lt Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Italy8955 Italy8956
