October 7, 2019 - This really ages fantastic. Ashy minerality, mature kerosene and honey notes paired with orange blossom. Slightly creamy. But still a vital acidity with ripe citrus fruit. Complex and yet so juicy and quaffable.
January 22, 2019 - Still light straw/gold in colour. Citrus florals on the bouquet and Lemon/lime/honey/stone fruits & toast on the palate. Absolute delight with dinner on a hot summers day.
April 9, 2018 - Still so enjoyable. Now showing maturity with baked bread (not yeast as in brioche) and smokey-minerality with a touch of kerosene like in a good Riesling. But there is freshness from ripe lemons and good acidity. Great value and I’m happy I have some more bottles cellared.
February 25, 2018 - Showing some development - a striking gold colour in the glass, with flavours of honey, sweet brown lime, toast. Good on the front palate but seems to lack some stuffing and finishes short.
September 1, 2017 - A private lunch (Restaurant Kasteel Heemstede *, Houten, Netherlands): Intense, almost fluorescent, buttercup yellow with a green tinge; rich and deep nose, full of toast, fresh and mineral, with a hint of fudge; fresh and tight palate, quite austere and even acidic, lemon curd flavour but lacks some fruit; light finish, good length.
August 15, 2017 - This is definitely Hunter Semillon but it just lacks something, an inner core of fruit. It's like it's past it already although it retains freshness and acidity.
July 31, 2017 - Another bottle. Still not really sure of this wine. Sweet apple slices, sugared lemon segments, touch of honey on the nose and palate but the acidity seems lacking for further development? Hard to tell with Sem sometimes! Will hang onto my remaining bottles and see what happens over the 5+ years.
April 23, 2017 - Very good.
Clear, pale, lemon.
Clean, medium, fully developed nose of waxed apple, lemon, baked apple and toast.
Dry, medium acid, medium (-) alcohol (10.5%), medium body, medium flavour intensity, with waxed and baked apples, lemon, honey and toast. Medium (+) length.
Very good. Such a well rounded wine, perhaps lacking the intensity and true complexity of the best Hunter Semillions, but provides lovely drinking.
Drink now, not suitable for further ageing.
March 18, 2017 - Pleasant, quite youthful. But it lacks both the acid and the lemon curd character of great Semillon.
January 29, 2017 - Light Honey in colour, crisp citrus integrating with honey dew melon and a touch of ripe peach. Smooth with lingering flavours on the palate. Despite its' age I think this is still developing in the bottle and has sufficient acid to go another 3-5 years in the cellar.
