February 20, 2020 - Cork broke during extraction but both pieces came out cleanly. Kind of stinky at first, it needed 4+ hours of air. Lots of dried cherry and cranberry, damp forest floor scents, porcini, and old leather. Very much alive, and quite grippy (as noted below), but the Barolo character appears to be losing ground to a “generic old red” phase. Tons of fun to drink, regardless.

December 9, 2018 - Vinetasters: Brown Bag (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. Extremely pale in colour. Perfumed, with some very pretty red fruit here. Clearly showing a bit of age, with some leather here. Lovely sweetness and fruit here. The tannic structure here clearly points to old nebbiolo. Delicate, fresh, and grippy.

October 21, 2018 - Whatcom Hospice House Charity Wine Dinner (Parkhurst Neighborhood, Bellingham, WA): This bottle over performed. Stood up for three months, then decanted for eight hours. Medium to light copper colored, but still in possession of sweet fruit. Mostly tertiary at this point, the earthy mushroom flavors paired perfectly with Inaudi Tagliolini with truffle butter and fresh white Alba truffle. In my experience, the summer of love wasn't a good vintage in most regions, but Piedmont did well. I'll consume my remaining bottles within five years or so.

Tasted non blind. Opened and served immediately. Followed over about two hours.

Light garnet color looking, slightly dusty looking throughout. Nose of iodine, root beer and red berries. Flavors of raspberries and red berries. Tart acidity, resolved tannin, medium body. Drink now. Be sure and stand and decant for sediment.

November 19, 2016 - Q4 2016 Wine Club (The Apt): Opened and decanted for prob 2 hours before pouring. Very approachable. Nice faded leather. This is just a fun bottle to get to try. Was definitely still going well.

April 24, 2014 - Great fill and general condition of bottle. Gentile double-decant for sediment 2.5 hours before serving. Fantastic nose of red fruits, lavender and rose petals. High-toned red fruits in the mouth, with some porchini, almost completely resolved tannins and a great acidity that keeps the wine fresh. The wine continued to evolve in the glass and was still going strong with the last pour - six hours after opening and decant. Tasted next to a ’67 Borgogno Riserva and ’67 Pio Cesare – this wine and Borgogno where the stars, each taking turns as leader of the group throughout the evening. Not dead yet. Not even close.

February 13, 2014 - Confraria - Restaurante Italy - São Paulo: 47 years old. There are no signs of fruit. I identified aromas of porcini fungus and wet soil. On the palate, pronounced acidity. Clearly passed the peak, but continues to give pleasure
