November 12, 2017 - Some blinds and non-blinds (Chicago, IL): #12-10, 8.5% abv. From a bottle that had been open for a week(!). But that hadn't adversely affected this wine at all. In fact, it was still fresh as a daisy, and had all of the characteristics I had remembered from tasting this a few months ago. Extremely sweet and rich, but with a clarity and crispness that kept this as true to the Spätlese level as you are to find these days. The fruit profile here is crystalline and pure, and reminds me a bit of the Eisweins.

September 2, 2017 - An absolutely brilliant and totally lovely effort, the 2009 Hermannshöhle Spätlese is a true gem in the world of Rieslings. The nose is elegant, yet expressive and exhibits abundant minerals, lemon zest, rather forward petroleum tones and a whiff of pineapple. There is an oily viscosity to the palate which keeps impressing me as long as I have the wine i my glass. It should be added the length on the finish is also very impressive. This wine will last for several decades, being built for the longer haul. Still it already reveals total integration, balance and an overwhelmingly intriguing palate. A true gem and a true masterpiece. (score is 96+)

August 26, 2017 - nice sweetness of peach and lychee, but acidity is slightly on the low side. not a bad wine but expected more from this producer.

February 17, 2017 - Lovely wine with delicious ripe flavors of honeysuckle and sweet apricot but it doesn't possess the bracing acidity that I look for in a spatlese-level wine. Finishes rather sweet but with good complexity and nice mineral notes. Better for me in higher acid vintages.

January 28, 2017 - German Wine Society (San Francisco): Yellow-golden; a bit more funky/earthy, minerally, some fruit as well; palate is slightly sweet, medium acid, nice fruit flavors; medium-plus finish. Very nice complexity and depth compared to the 2009 Emrich Schonleber, slightly less acid than the comparison wine but overall well integrated together. 92
